Arman Tsarukyan has provided an update on whether he will serve as a backup for the UFC 324 headliner, which will see Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett battle for interim lightweight gold.
Ahalkalakets’ was denied a second title shot after withdrawing from his 2025 UFC 311 title fight against Islam Makhachev. As penance for withdrawing from the high-stakes Makhachev rematch, the Armenian fighter cut his weight and served as a backup for the UFC 317 headliner that saw Ilia Topuria and Charles Oliveira fight for the vacant lightweight championship.

Last month, Tsarukyan also expressed interest in serving as a backup for the Gaethje-Pimbelt fight. However, according to the latest update, he will not lose weight for battle and will not serve as a backup fighter. In a recent interview with Shakiel Mahjouri, he revealed:

“No, I didn’t talk to them, and I wouldn’t lose weight just for money, because it’s difficult. But if they ask me, I will do it, but they didn’t ask. That’s why it’s better for me not to lose weight. If I lose weight, I want to fight. I already lost weight in June. [for UFC 317] and nothing happened. I just spent my training camp energy on cutting weight.

Arman Tsarukyan reveals the real reason he pulled out of UFC 311

While there have been many theories as to why Arman Tsarukyan pulled out of his UFC 311 title fight, the 29-year-old recently revealed the real reason why he was forced to withdraw.

During a recent chat with Adin Ross, ‘Ahalkalakets’ revealed that he had been diagnosed with a hernia. He added that he may need surgery in the future to fix the problem once and for all.

“So I did an MRI and it showed [I have a Hernia]… My back was broken and I couldn’t move, and within two to three weeks I started moving. “
