What started as a simple act of kindness by a woman from a small town in Ontario, Canada, became an international sensation. Allison Parliament, who unfortunately since he died, began to place rubber ducks on jeeps in her small city to pass on a smile.
Allison placed a rubber duck on a jeep with a note and said, “Another great day.” She did this to bring some cheers and happiness during the pandemic. What she did not expect was that the duck went viral under the #duckduckjeep tag. Now looking for #duckduckjeep on Instagram, Facebook or Tiktok offers countless fun videos where Jeep owners find ducks on their caps or side mirrors. As a show of pride, Jeep owners will place those ducks on their dashboards to show how much they have collected.
Although some may believe that Duck Duck Jeep is only for Wranglers, because they seem to have more ducks than most other Jeep models on the road, every type of jeep is eligible to be pushed.
In the words of Allison Parliament: “Jeeps are pushed for many reasons and with many motivations and meanings. For me it was an act of kindness, a kind of healing, as well as recognition and greeted for a fellow -owner … You don’t really need a reason for jeep diving, having a smile on someone’s face.”
What kind of ducks are used?
One of the primary rubber ducks used by Jeep owners is the normal, everyday yellow rubber duck that many people can see in bathtubs. Yellow rubber ducks are affordable and anonymous, so that almost everyone who owns a jeep, a chance to close a colleague -Joep owner. Duck Duck Jeep is not limited to only yellow rubber ducks, which means that any color, design or size (as long as it will not damage the vehicle) can be placed on a colleague -Jeep. As the owner of a Jeep Wrangler from 2008, I had my part of Run-ins with Duck Duck Jeep. There are currently two ducks in my jeep, a purple colored and a yellow colored.
Occasionally, Jeep owners find small, cute notes written on the duck. These messages are usually something along the lines of the Ducker that the Jeep likes, or they can also wish that the other Jeep owner has a good day. Usually at the end of the message or written someone else on the duck will be #duckduckjeep.
Are there other Jeep traditions?
Jeep culture runs deep and there is still a large Jeep tradition that almost every owner of Wrangler has experienced: the Jeep Wave. When two jeep wranglers pass each other, the drivers wave either to the colleague Wrangler or raise some fingers from the steering wheel (if they want to be safe). In some situations I have discovered, especially during holidays and renting a Wrangler, that most tourists or first Wrangler drivers are not aware of the Golf.
Although there is no tradition, there is a very strong culture around Jeeps that evokes a sense of adventure. Jeeps are built to go to other vehicles that are only dreaming, whether it is an almost vertical rock wall or through a river. Jeep owners even come together every year to celebrate the possibility of these off-road animals in the Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah.
The Easter Jeep Safari walks through the Easter holidays for a week every year and brings tens of thousands of Jeep owners to the desert of Utah. The event, which is sponsored by Jeep, offers drivers the opportunity to share in the Jeep culture with fellow enthusiasts and also offers guided and solo adventures via designated off-road paths. Jeep usually also shows off a handful of concepts during the event.
