The Mariners have signed Luke Jackson for a minor League deal on Thursday, according to the righthander Mlb.com Profile page. Jackson (which will be 34 tomorrow) made his debut last night with Triple-a Tacoma, making two runs possible in a collection of auxiliary work.
The Rangers signed Jackson in February for a one -year -old deal of $ 1.5 mm, plus he added another $ 450k to his salary by reaching thresholds -based incentives. Jackson was designated for assignment and then released at the end of July and then quickly joined the Tigers for another guaranteed deal. This term of office in Motown only took three performances and 4 1/3 innings before Jackson was again DFA’ed, and he chose to become a free agent instead of accepting an outright assignment to the Tigers’ Triple-A branch.
If the Mariners Jackson calls the active schedule, Seattle owes him only a balanced minimum salary, that will be deducted from some remains of his original salary. With Texas still responsible for most of Jackson’s money, there is no risk for the Ms to add an experienced depth arm to the ranks.
As you would expect from the three-team tour, it has not been a terrible productive year for Jackson on the Heuvel. Jackson has an ERA of 4.54 over 39 2/3 combined innings with Texas and Detroit, with almost as many walks (24) as strikeouts (28). The lack of results has come despite the usual success of Jackson to keep the ball on the ground, because he has a grounder percentage of 52.5% and a favorable .267 Babip.
It is now more two years since the last productive MLB season of Jackson, because he also had a 5.09 ERA in 53 innings with the Giants and Braves in 2024. Although walks have always been a problem for Jackson, he placed very strong numbers in both the seasons 2021 and 2023, with the 2022 -campaign. If he can recapture one of his old form, Jackson could bring some postseas experience to a Mariners team that hopes to make some noise in October.
