This is something I cannot accept about West Ham 3 Newcastle 1

Lots of discussion about Newcastle United’s players after Sunday’s match.

The game that ended at West Ham 3 Newcastle 1 and understandably a lot of frustration among the NUFC fanbase.

Everyone has their own theories about what went wrong.

Whether it was the Newcastle United players, Eddie Howe or whatever, something could and should have been done differently.

And of course giving credit to West Ham at the same time.

However, there is one thing I cannot accept about Newcastle United’s players, the fans who claim they lack commitment, dedication and the like.

Looking at the statistics (all statistics via BBC Sports) of the distance each team travels.

In total, West Ham players covered a total of 114.08 km, compared to 116.85 km by Newcastle United’s players.

Eddie Howe’s players put up more yards than the home team yesterday.

Looking back, it’s interesting to look at what has been the case in the last five Premier League games before West Ham’s, in terms of the total distance players cover on the pitch.

Newcastle United players 114.50 km and Fulham players 110.21 km

Newcastle United players 115.16 km and Brighton players 113.59 km

Newcastle United players 109.45 km and Forest players 106.43 km

Newcastle United players 112.94 km and Arsenal players 115.08 km

Newcastle United players 113.23 km and Bournemouth players 109.03 km

As you can see, Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United players have comfortably outpaced the competition in five of the last six Premier League games, collectively covering more distance.

The only exception is Arsenal, who covered more distance at St James’ Park than Newcastle United’s players. Maybe a strong clue as to why they’re at the top of the table?

Betting the yards does not guarantee winning games, BUT it certainly increases the odds overall. The harder you work, the luckier you get.
