Northampton Town favorites linked with bitter rivals Peterborough United and ex-Championship boss News: The72 – Football League News

Peterborough United’s season has gone from bad to worse after a dismal start to their League One season. Thirteen games later, the Posh are bottom of the table, five points behind Burton Albion in twentieth place and outside the relegation zone.

Despite their difficulties, Peterborough went into the weekend with renewed optimism, having won three of their previous four games, including a crucial 1-0 victory over Burton Albion.

Their clash with 23rd placed Blackpool, managed by Ian Evatt for the first timeended in further disappointment. The visitors claimed a 2-1 victory at London Road, a result that ultimately cost Darren Ferguson his job.

After the match, Peterborough United confirmed that Ferguson’s contract had been terminated. Posh are wasting no time in their search for his replacement, with two candidates already lined up.

According to Football competition Worldformer Northampton Town favorite Jon Brady is being eyed for the post. This is despite the fact that Peterborough United has a huge rivalry with Northampton Town.

The other potential new boss is Luke Williams, who was most recently at Championship Swansea City. He was released by Wales in February and was previously very successful at Notts County.

More on potential Peterborough United boss Jon Brady

After taking charge of Northampton Town for 200 games, Brady left the club 18 games into last season. At the time of his departure the Cobblers sat 21st in League One.

Although his tenure ended under difficult circumstances, Brady’s spell at Northampton was largely successful. Despite being relegated in his first season, he earned the respect and admiration of the supporters.

He later led the club back to League One in the 2022/23 season, finishing third to secure promotion. With Cambridge United facing a potential rebuild, Brady could be a prime candidate to lead that process.

The new boss must be committed to Posh

Peterborough United cannot afford to have a slow start with whoever takes over from Ferguson. Last season was very bad for them, and another relegation match will not have been in the script.

The Posh will have expected to bounce back and be among the play-off hopefuls once again. It is a sad sight for a team that has played in the Championship in recent seasons.

That said, this is a huge deal for them. The pressure on their next boss will be immense, whether it’s Brady, Williams or someone else.
