Have reading announced the decision to sack boss Noel Hunt following last weekend’s draw against Doncaster Rovers.
Due to Reading’s difficult start to the season, the team is hovering just above the relegation zone after fourteen games, increasing the pressure on manager Noel Hunt. The Royals are on fifteen points, six of which have come from the last five games.
Last season, Hunt came close to leading Reading to the play-offs, but the current priority is stability, both on and off the pitch. Now under new ownership, the Berkshire club is determined to move on after a turbulent period that saw the club almost completely collapse.
Despite losing just once in the last five, Hunt has now lost his job. The club has announced his dismissal after the disappointing 1-1 home draw against Doncaster Rovers.
The new owner is unwilling to rest on his laurels and wants to get the club back in the play-off hunt, as they did under Ruben Selles before his move to Hull City.
That said, here are three managers Reading should keep an eye on following Hunt’s sacking…
Jon Brady
After overseeing 200 games at Northampton Town, Brady left for 18 games this season, with the Cobblers sitting 21st in League One. Although he left the club in a difficult place, his overall tenure was impressive.
Despite being relegated in his first season, Brady earned the admiration and support of the Northampton faithful. He led the team to the League Two play-offs the following year, narrowly missing the semi-finals, before gaining promotion with a third-place finish in the 2022/2023 season.
Brady then led the Cobblers to a solid 14th place on their return to League One, and given Fleetwood’s current problems he could well reproduce that success at the Cod Army.
Matt Bloomfield
Matt Bloomfield was rejected just a few weeks ago by fellow League One club Luton Town, but he was still heavily linked with the Blackpool vacancy before the club opted for Ian Evatt instead.
A quick return to management cannot be ruled out for Bloomfield, and Reading could prove to be the perfect fit. In his next role he will be keen to replicate the success he enjoyed with Wycombe Wanderers last season.
Bloomfield had Wycombe competing at the top of League One before moving to Luton, having revived the side in a short space of time. He could very well bring that same energy and turnaround potential to Reading.

Leam Richardson
Richardson is a manager with proven promotion experience from League One and guided Wigan Athletic to the Championship in 2022.
After keeping the Latics away from danger in his first season, he transformed them into one of the strongest sides in the division. However, limited investment led to struggles at a higher level, and he was controversially sacked midway through the Championship campaign.
Having been out of work since being sacked by Rotherham United in April 2024, a move to Reading could be ideal for both parties. If he can repeat the work he did at Wigan Athletic, Richardson would be an inspiring appointment.
