Khelif was set to make a competitive comeback in Eindhoven from 5-10 June.
But on Friday, World Boxing said that mandatory sex tests would be introduced next month “to guarantee the safety of all participants and to deliver a competitive level of playing field for men and women.”
It added: “In the light of plans to introduce this policy and the specific circumstances surrounding some boxers who participated in the Olympic Games in Paris 2024, World Boxing has written to the Algerian Boxing Federation to inform that Imane Khelif will not be allowed to participate in the female Cup or Werd Boxing Eindhoven Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxing Boxx Owno Undergo Undergohs.
“This decision reflects concern about the safety and well -being of all boxers, including Imane Khelif, and is intended to protect the mental and physical health of all participants in the light of some of the reactions expressed in relation to the potential participation of the boxer to the Eindhoven Box Cup.”
World Boxing also published a letter that it had sent to both Khelif and the Algerian boxing federation, and claimed that the new considering rules were developed “with the explicit goal of protecting athletes in combat sports”, given the “physical risks related to Olympic style boxing”.
It also said in the letter that in “the event the sex certification of the athlete is challenged by the federation of the athlete or by boxing the world” the athlete will “not be eligible to compete until the dispute is resolved”.
World boxing received provisional recognition as the international government of the sport by the IOC in February 2025, and the Algerian boxing federation was recovered in September.
Khelif has always participated in the women’s division and there is no suggestion that the hunter identifies as something other than a woman.
Some reports took the IBA stating that Khelif XY chromosomes has to speculate that the hunter can have differences in sexual development (DSD), such as Runner Caster Semenya.
However, the BBC was unable to confirm whether or not this is the case.
The IOC made it clear last year that this is “not a transgender shop”.
In a statement on Tuesday, the IOC said that it has always made it clear that criteria of the eligible are the responsibility of the respective international federation. The factors that are important for sports performance are unique for every sport, discipline and/or event.
“We are waiting for the full details of how sex tests will be implemented in a safe, fair and legally enforceable way.”
World boxing has said that his new policy is in the last stages of development and will mean that “all athletes older than 18 years who want to participate in a worldbox ownership or sanctioned competition must undergo a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) genetic test to determine their gender and their suitability to compete.”
