Gadkari inaugurated the ‘International Value Summit 2025’ and said that the automotive sector pays maximum GST income to the government and generates opportunities for work.
“Within five years, our goal is to make the India’s car industry the number 1 in the world,” said Road Transport and Highways Minister.
Gadkari pointed out that all major car companies are present in the country.
“When I took the lead as Minister of Transport, the size of the Indian car industry was RS 14 Lakh Crore. The size of the Indian car industry is now RS 22 Lakh Crore,” Gadkari said.
Currently, the size of the American car industry is RS 78 Lakh Crore, followed by China (RS 47 Lakh Crore) and India (RS 22 Lakh Crore). The minister said that India is the fastest growing economy in the world and the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to make India the third largest economy. “We have to develop a good infrastructure to achieve this goal,” he said.
Referring to the quality of the highway construction, Gadkari said that the quality of detailed project trails (DPRs) in India are not good.
A DPR, which includes surveys, research and designs, is essential for the project implementation process.
Speaking of ethanoleconomy, Gadkari said that farmers should not only be recognized as ‘annadata’ or food producers, but also as ‘urjadata’ or energy producers.
He expressed the confidence that India’s logistics costs would fall at the end of December at 9 percent.
“Until recently, the logistics costs in India were about 16 percent of GDP. But according to a final joint IIM-Iit survey, we have reduced this to 10 percent. That is an important milestone and we strive for a single figures,” Gadkari said.
According to him, the logistics costs in China are 8 percent, while that of Europe and America is 12 percent.
