The stock car racing world is in shock on Thursday after a plane crash in North Carolina. Former NASCAR Cup Series driver Greg Biffle and six other people were killed when his Cessna Citation II crashed while attempting an emergency landing at Statesville Regional Airport, 45 miles north of Charlotte. There were no survivors. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident.
The Cessna took off from the airport Thursday morning and then quickly circled to land. WSOC TV reports thisEyewitnesses saw the plane cut through the tree line on an adjacent golf course, crash through the airport fence and then come to a stop in flames. North Carolina State Highway Patrol confirmed seven fatalities but did not identify any of the victims. However, the victims’ families confirmed what many already believed. Biffle was on board with his wife Cristina, five-year-old son Ryder and 14-year-old daughter Emma. Dennis Dutton, his son Jack and Craig Wadsworth were also on board. It is unclear who was piloting the plane.

Most notably, Greg dedicated countless hours of his time to helping the citizens of North Carolina during the disasters that followed Hurricane Helene. His tireless work has saved lives.

Biffle will be greatly missed not only for his contributions to racing, but also for the impact he left off the track. It’s rare for someone to reach that level of fame and fortune and still care about their community on a personal level.
