According to the Blue Jays transaction logs, they have signed reliever Tanner Andrews to a minor league deal. Andrews, an RHP, was drafted in the 10th round by the Miami Marlins and recently turned 30. Last season he pitched with Minnesota’s AA team, as well as in Independent Ball.
Andrews is a 30-year-old right-handed pitcher. He was drafted in the 10th round of the 2018 draft by the Miami Marlins out of Purdue. He spent four seasons in the Marlins’ minor league system before being traded to the San Francisco Giants after the 2021 season.
He spent parts of three seasons with the Giants and even reached Triple-A in 2024. At the end of the 2024 season, he pitched in Puerto Rico during their Winter League season before agreeing to deals with the Staten Island FerryHawks of the Atlantic League to begin the 2025 season.
There, he pitched alongside former Blue Jay Kirby Snead and didn’t give up an earned run in 13.2 innings pitched, striking out more than half the batters he faced (52.1 K%) while walking just two.
The Minnesota Twins took notice and signed him to a minor league deal in early June. In 16.2 innings pitched with the Twins’ Double-A team, Andrews had a 3.78 ERA and 2.01 FIP, with a 24 K% and 4 BB%.
