Barbora Krejcikova has saved a US Open Record Eight match points in its Titanic Fourth Round Victory on Taylor Townsend with a 1-6, 7-6 (15-13), 6-3 Scoreline.
The previous US Open Record was held by Rogerio Dutra Silva van Brazil, who defeated Vasek Postpisil, save seven match points in his 4-6, 3-6, 7-6 (11-9), 6-2, 7-6 (12-10) in the first round of the US Open 2013.
Earlier this year, Elise Mertens from Belgium saved 11 match points in its 2-6, 7-6 (7), 6-4 semi-final victory at Ekaterina Alexandrova in the pre-wimbledon Grass Court event in S’Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands in June.
The record of all time for most match points that were saved in a match was 18 by Wilmer Allison against Giorgio de Stefani of Italy in the US versus Italy Davis Cup match in 1930.
Said Krejcikova, the former French and Wimbledon Singles champion: “Absolutely on all those match points, I was just very brave, but also on certain points, because we had great rallies, and I stood opposite them when I was serving when I returned.”
