Emma Raducanu is of the opinion that the other Grand Slam tournaments should follow the lead of the US Open and change the size of their mixed double matches after she had enjoyed Carlos Alcaraz in the renewed version of the competition this week.
This year, the US openly controversial chose to make significant changes to its mixed Double Championship, to move its usual position during the rest of the most important drawing events to the qualifying week and to move the access criteria so that it preferred Singles players.
“I think it would be so much fun if all the slams were involved and did something similar, even if it wasn’t exactly the same size,” Raducanu said. “I think it was a huge success. I think so many fans were involved, who watched and tuned. It received a lot of attention. I think it’s a great idea. And yes, I had a lot of fun playing on the field with Carlos.”
Raducanu is still looking for her first victory here since she won the US Open in 2021. With all the pressure and expectations that she followed, it has been extremely difficult in recent years. However, things have changed considerably this year.
“I would say that I feel very different from 2022,” she said. “I really had trouble when I came back in 2022. I didn’t like to come back here. I think it is now the first time that I have the feeling that I can come back to the US open and really enjoy the memories I have made here and I am proud of that and see it as a happy place. So I feel very grateful for and very satisfied now.”
Raducanu, who starts her tournament against a qualification, has gained the confidence of the performance at a consistent high level during this summer, winning countless competitions and gradually rebuilt her ranking. In her most recent competition, Raducanu de Nr. 1 Aryna Sabalenka pushed to a third set of Tie-Break in their Cincinnati Open Third-Round Match before he barely lost.
“I think the most important thing is that I just came to America in DC and I’ve played since,” she said. “I made a semi -final there. And then I played in Montreal, quickly turned. I went to Cincy and had a good game and then played Aryna, lost that in three. Place the last 10 days in good practical work. I just feel relatively prepared if I can be.
The US Open marks the first Grand Slam tournament of Raducanu and the second event in general with its new coach, Francisco Roig. Roig, who was part of the Rafael Nadal coaching team during all his 22 Grand Slam titles, once competed in Doubles next to the Spaniard, a subject that helped to break the ice between Raducanu and her new coach before they started working:
“It was so funny, because I played in Montreal and I got off the field. I think I just played Peyton [Stearns]Had a good match, came on, “she said.” He said: “I know you can’t lose in that court. I retired and won my only doubles match at that court. “So it was a good omen. ‘
In the meantime, Fran Jones continued her breakthrough by beating Arianne Hartono 6-2, 6-4 to qualify for the US Open Main Draw without dropping a set. Jones has ectrodactyly ectodermal dysplasia (oath), a rare genetic disorder, which means she was born with a thumb and three fingers on each hand, and seven toes. The 24-year-old did not prevent this from achieving her goal to become an elite tennis player: Jones recently broke in the top 100 and rose to a career-high ranking of no. 84.
