Wolves fans need to hear Chris Finch’s thoughts on Anthony Edwards’ altercation

Anthony Edwards and Chris Finch got into a barking match in the Minnesota Timberwolves’ win over the LA Clippers. Edwards hit a clutch shot late in the game, but Finch apparently told him to pass. As he made the shot, Edwards advanced on Finch. But said the head coachthe altercation was fair two competitors competing.

“Listen, we’re both fierce competitors,” Finch told Colin Cowherd on FS1’s The Herd. “It’s been part of our relationship since Day 1. We have a phenomenally talented player who makes great shots and he’s a closer and he’s made great strides in that area and we’re fortunate to have him. This isn’t the first game-winning shot he’s made for us this season. But he also has a responsibility to make his teammates better and make the right plays, and that’s what we preach to him all the time.

“He’s really emotional. I’m emotional. We say these things to each other and move on, we don’t take it personally. I didn’t think the reactions after the game were mean, I thought he was just joking. We just poked each other back and forth. These guys are super competitive and they have a lot of pride. Sometimes you have to stoke the fire, and sometimes it comes back on you, but that’s part of it.”

These kinds of things happen all the time in sports.

It’s like when Travis Kelce bumped into Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid on the sideline. Players and coaches have been at it forever.

The reality of the situation is that sports are a competitive affair. People get excited. Emotions run wild. The heat of battle often overwhelms people, and the interaction between Edwards and Finch showed that.

Edwards has ultimate confidence in himself. He wants to take the big pictures. Finch looks at the game from a coach’s perspective. He wants his guys to make the right play every time.

But as the matches enter the final minutes, tensions rise to another level. The intensity increases and players and coaches become very particular about how they want things done. Because they want to win.

There may be some bad blood between the two, but the likely truth is that both guys were just full of adrenaline.

All that matters is the win, and that’s exactly what the Wolves got against the Clippers.
