Wofford has suspended men’s basketball coach Dwight Perry, with plans to formally dismiss Perry within the next two weeks, sources told Matt Norlander of CBS Sports. This week the school sent a formal written notification of his intentions, although Perry is expected to defend his name in the case with the hope of keeping his job, according to Norlander. Perry led the terriers to a NCAA tournament performance in March after winning the Socon Tournament and posted a 36-31 record in two seasons.
The relocation of Wofford comes less than two months before the season opener of 2025-26. Assistant -coach Drew Gibson, a graduate Wofford from 2008, is elevated to interim head coach, according to the school.

The timing of the change is less than ideal, and it is the second time in three years that Wofford has rejected his coach for a strange time.
Perry took over as an interim coach of Wofford in the middle of the 2022-23 season after the then coach Jay McAuley resigned after complaints that he regularly forced players to participate in team activities outside the 20-hour limit of the NCAA.
The NCAA ruled the case in August 2024 when Wofford was beaten with a year of probation and McAuley was given a two-year show.
It is the second unexpected coaching movement of college basketball this week, then Saint Joseph’s Coach Billy Lange Koos to resign on Wednesday To accept a job on the New York Knicks.
