Now that the 2025-26 season is approaching, we get more NBA 2K assessments. First, the Utah Jazz received pretty good news about the 2K rating of Ace Bailey, and now they got good news about Walker Kessler. Although Kessler’s general assessment has not yet been released, 2K assessed him as the fourth best shotblocker in the NBA. He was not only one of the best of the best, but he was arranged at Rudy Gobert!
When NBA 2K released his reviews for NBA 2K 2026, Kessler hit fourth place with Donovan Clingan, with only Victor Wembanyama, Chet Holmgren and Robert Williams III for him.

Kessler has played well enough that an expansion feels inevitably. That’s because he looked like he was taking a legitimate step forward on both sides of the floor. However, as Shotblocker the results speak for himself, because he finished second in blocks per game behind only Wembanyama, by nba.com.
To be honest, that is more than Gobert, who had an average of 1.4 blocks last season. That does not mean that in that respect, Kessler is better than Gobert, but it shows how many better things look like him compared to last year, where legitimate doubts were about what his future has in store.
Last year Last year, Kessler came out for a season so disappointing that he was rumors in trade all summer. When he had his recovered season, the trade rumors remained, although it was pretty clear that the jazz did not really grab it in the beginning. They did not really surface again, and much of it is because a lot of faith has been restored in Kessler.
It is also cool to see that 2K does not hold the bad defense of jazz against Kessler. Many would see how bad Utah was on that side of the floor last season (119.4 defensive rating, which was the worst in the NBA) and holding it against him.
But knowing how bad they were and how respected Kessler is, there is a problem that they have to confront.
It is in jazz to build a better defense around Kessler
Kessler should be in jazz in the long term. Although it is good to know that they will have their rim protector in the future, Utah needs better defenders around him. It is possible that some young people they now have in their selection bloom in quality defenders in the course of the line.
This coming season will be about throwing just about everything against the wall and seeing what lingers. What some of these young players will help to continue to see with Jazz to see if they can become a positive thing about that end of the floor.
Kessler has proven how excellent he can be as a general defender, but it costs more than just one. Ironically, the jazz from the Gobert era knows how important it is to surround an elite edge protector with quality defenders by his side. Utah has time, but for them to form their next Playoff team, it goes without saying that they need more than just Kessler in defense to return to the late season.
