The incident took place after the BPL clash of Noakhali Express with Dhaka Capitals where Nabi was speaking to the media. A reporter from Bangladesh then asked him for his opinion on the ongoing controversy over Mustafizur and his release from the IPL ahead of the 2026 edition.
Responding to the question, a clearly disappointed Nabi said he had nothing to do with the situation. He acknowledged that Mustafizur is a good bowler but emphasized that the question was misplaced.
“IskWhat should I give or take from you, brother? What do I have from Mustafizur?? Politics what’s the use of me? (What do I have to do with it? How am I related to Mustafizur? I have nothing to do with politics),” Nabi responded.
“I know he is a good bowler, all these things. But the way you ask questions has nothing to do with me,” he concluded.

For the inexperienced, Mustafizur was released by the Kolkata Knight Riders from their IPL 2026 squad, as per instructions from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). That has been a topic of discussion, with the Bangladesh Cricket Board even threatening to withdraw from the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup if the ICC does not move their matches outside India.
Nabi makes history and plays professional cricket with his son
History was made in the match between Noakhali Express and Dhaka Capitals as Nabi and Eisakhil became the first father-son duo to play together in the same team. They even established a brief partnership while batting.
When asked how it felt to play alongside his son, Nabi gave an emotional answer as he praised his son’s innings.
“I am very happy to play with my son. I have been waiting for a long time to play with him. I have prepared him as a professional cricketer. He performed very well on his debut. We were on the same field together. I told him what was going to happen; what is the bowler going to do. Will he bowl fast or a slower bowl. He waited for those balls and he played very well,” Nabi said.
Interestingly, Hassan Eisakhil was adjudged player of the match for his knock of 92 runs in 60 balls.
