The renowned commentator shared how KKR has a history of fielding a wicketkeeper-batsman as one of their opening batters. He also mentioned KKR’s Kiwi duo Tim Seifert and Finn Allen and felt one of the two will find their way up.
“A topic of discussion would be which four overseas players would play. Of the four overseas players, if they open a keeper-batter, who will bat in the lower order? That’s a big question. They have generally had a keeper-opener. They have taken Tim Seifert and Finn Allen this time,” Chopra shared in a video on his YouTube channel.
While Chopra underlined that an all-Indian middle order could ultimately work for KKR, he expressed concern over the effectiveness of having to play against players who have not yet shown their full potential in those slots as far as the previous seasons of the league are concerned.
“If you play either and open with Ajinkya Rahane alongside him, you play Cameron Green at number 3. Then come the questions. Angkrish Raghuvanshi at number 4, Rinku Singh at number 5, Ramandeep Singh at number 6 and Tejasvi Singh at number 7. It doesn’t sound that great to me. It could work, but does it sound good? Your middle order looks a bit cold,” he added.
Besides Allen, Seifert and Green, KKR also picked up Rachin Ravindra, Matheesha Pathirana and Mustafizur Rahman in the foreign players category, while already retaining Rovman Powell and Sunil Narine in the squad ahead of the mini-auction. They have a lot of players to choose from as they pick their four foreign players for the XI.
