Update on the toilet renovation | November 2, 2025

Happy Sunday! I hope you have a peaceful one.

Did I mention we’re putting a small toilet on the first floor? The original plan was to repair this last year in conjunction with replacing the top (and so far only) bathroom, but it involved so much hassle that we put it on hold.

So now it’s time again. The process is quite simple, as we still have the previous bathroom fresh in our minds. Nice to be able to do a project with a bit of routine and control over materials and colors instead of making decisions in panic 🙂

Tiles will be exactly the same as in the upper bathroom, Höganäs Grynna in brick red. The tile is the original style from Byggfabriken in County White. It is not particularly white as you might see, I experience it as a creamy, dull light yellow with warm undertones. First we painted the walls and ceiling in Jotun’s Pistachio. It’s a nice green, but something felt a little… crooked? It stuck out and felt a bit too cold and bright.

In the photo it looks a little more muted, in real life it felt very alive!

Nice, but maybe another time in a different room. In the niche on the left there will be a washing machine and as many Elfa mesh cable trays as will fit above. I long to be such an organized person with the sheets and towels in order!

Here it can be seen more clearly that the green does not play along with the floor at all, right?

So today I painted again! It became Jotun Hillside. It is only one step lighter than Pistachio but gives a completely different, calmer impression. I look into the toilet and can exhale, it was the right decision.

I wanted a bright but warm and fairly light pistachio green. We had been thinking for a while about continuing with the cream theme and painting with Auros Vit No. 304, but it felt like too beige a choice. In addition, I was advised not to use the Auro in a room where water could splash against the walls.

This is what the mirror that will be placed there will look like. Isn’t it cute? It reminds me of that kind of fun nougat sandwich topping that is swirled in a glass jar.

Now realize that it’s going to be a very colorful little space. Wonder when I got that taste? Until recently, I probably preferred bright, neutral colors for my home, but there is a shift happening. It may be that I realized that the living room felt far too pale and that the balance was restored with some more earthy and intense colors.

I’m looking forward to showing everything when it’s done, hopefully next week!
