We asked Mark Jankowski to give us his match reviews and comments from players after Union Saint-Gilloise 0 Newcastle 4.
Pope 8
Despite the comfortable character of Newcastle’s victory, Nick Pope was still needed to make a few good saves.
He performed all this really well and even looked reasonably comfortable with the ball on his feet, a solid version of our number one.
Trippier 8
Easy the best performance of the season of Kieran Trippier. He made Anthony Elanga very well supported all night.
He was insured for defense and tried to constitute balls for our attackers to take advantage.
Thiaw 8
I was not 100% convinced that Thiaw was ready for the Premier League when we signed it in the summer, but I was converted to a believer.
He has just been incredible since he came to the side for Schar and I can’t see any way he is falling ahead.
Botman 9
Out of sight is the expression that jumps forward when he thinks about Sven Botman.
He has passed a difficult few years, but his versions in recent weeks have shown why he was so loved a few years ago in the run to the Champions League.
He is an absolute colossus at the back and the quality football player to start.
Burned 7
A really solid first half version of Dan Burn was succeeded by a somewhat shaky start to the second half after Union SG changed their formation somewhat.
In the end, the Dominance of Newcastle paid off and all in all it was a fairly solid version of Burn.
In the future, however, we have to play specialized full-backs in the team, especially because we are so talented in those positions.
Bruno 8
A truly energetic performance from our captain who showed his quality on the ball on different occasions.
He has such a quick spirit when he is in possession, he makes a very big difference in helping Newcastle to set up the ball quickly.
Tonali 10 (Mans of the competition)
I no longer have any ways to describe how brilliant Sandro Tonali is, but for my money he is not only the best midfielder in Newcastle, he is perhaps the best midfielder in the Premier League.
A Masterclass version of Italian. He covered every blade of grass and was in a sharp possession.
He played an important role in our first goal and was very bad luck not to complete the performance with a fifth at the end of the game.
Joelinton
A relatively quiet version of Big Joe tonight.
The truth is told, he shines in games when Newcastle does not have much of the ball.
His performance tonight, however, showed what a good player he is. He connected well with his colleague midfielders to dominate that area of the field.
The garden
Another player who sets the best performance of his season tonight was Anthony Elanga a threat to miniminie.
I got a bit of the debate with a friend about his performance, in particular the number of times he does not complete a dribble or a pass.
However, it is difficult to claim that he had no enormous effect on the game in the assets that he has successfully completed.
He was heavily involved in the first two goals and had bad luck not to put it in himself at the start of the second half.
Woltemade 8
So far it is only a handful of versions for the Big German, but he has succeeded in gaining a goal in three of them.
If you can get the ball in his feet, I am not sure if there are many players around who can get him from him.
He was absolutely brilliant in a part of his link-up game and performed a smart finish to take the opening goal of the game.
Gordon 9
The last player to place the best performance of a season from the Startline -Up was Anthony Gordon tonight at his bustling best.
He was a constant threat and worked very hard off the ball. He took two really good penalties away and was not far away to be the man of the game.
Subs
Miley 7
Some good minutes for the young man.
He showed some nice accents at the ball and had faith to try to continue the game.
He still shows signs of inexperience of the strange loose pass, but every minute we can get to Miley, will bear fruit in the long term.
Osula 7
Seems full of confidence at the moment. His Rijrun played an important role in the goal of Barnes.
If he can deliver more cameo performances in this spirit, he will make a number of really big contributions for the rest of the season.
Barnes 8
A dynamic and driving performance of Barnes in his short time on the field, with a well -battered goal.
Barnes looks at his best when making an impact from the bank.
If he can build some trust in these types of versions, it can only come in handy.
Hall 7
Lewis Hall is at the top of my list to make a start against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
He looks so natural on the left that it makes it difficult to argue in order to burn in that position in the side.
With Tino’s injury that will get him out of battle in the coming months. Lewis Hall will be a big player who is making progress.
