A Ukrainian parliamentary member and other officials were arrested after the anti-corruption agencies of the country have discovered what they call a large-scale bribery schedule when purchasing drones and electronic warfield systems.

In a statement about X, President Volodyymyr Zensky said that a Ukrainian parliamentary member, heads of district and city administrations and various members of the National Guard Service were exposed to their involvement, in which state contracts were involved in suppliers signed at prices that were blown up by a maximum of 30%.

The independence of the anti-corruption agencies of Ukraine was restored on Thursday, after national protests.

The Van Zensensky government was confronted with an extensive return after the introduction of a bill that would rid the National Anti-Corruption Office and specialized anti-corruption officer of Justice, known as Nabu and SAP respectively.

The president claimed that the agencies “had to be released from Russian influence” and tried to give the general public prosecutor the authority to decide who should be prosecuted in a high -level corruption cases.

Many saw the movement as a step back for corruption in Ukraine, which resulted in the largest anti-government demonstrations since Russia launched its full invasion of the country in 2022.

Zelensky recognized public anger and submitted a new bill that restored the former independence of the agencies, which was voted by parliament only nine days after the original account was taken.

The head of the most important intelligence director of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense (Hur), Kyylo Budanov, thanked Zensky for “hearing the call from the public” with regard to the powers of anti-corruption agencies and “not making a mistake”.

The relocation was also praised by EU federation, who had expressed concern about the implications of the original account.

The fight against corruption is important in Ukraine’s offer to become a member of the EU. The establishment of Nabu and SAP was a requirement from the European Commission and the International Monetary Fund in 2014, to go to a relaxation of visa restrictions.

As a result, Kyiv received the EU candidate status in 2022, so that the nation brought a step in the direction of closer ties with the West.

Since their foundation, Nabu and SAP have been involved in far -reaching investigations into the abuse of millions of dollars in assets and bribes in various ministries and sectors.

A joint investigation in 2023 resulted in the arrest of the head of the Ukraine Supreme Court, Vsolod Kniaziev, in connection with a bribery of $ 3 million (£ 2.4 million; € 2.9 million).
