The Proton eMas 7 continues its performance as the best-selling electric vehicle (EV) in Malaysia, with the model once again topping the category for September 2025. Based on the latest data from the Road Transport Department (JPJ), 757 units of the eMas 7 were registered last month, down slightly from the 766 units sold in August. In terms of year-to-date (YTD) figures, it stands well above the rest, with 6,212 units sold in the first nine months of the year.
Last month, the Tesla Model Y rose one spot to second, with a total of 389 units sold (2,434 units YTD) for the month, putting it ahead of the BYD Atto 3, which rose one position from fourth place in August with 302 units sold (2,665 units YTD).
In fourth place was the Tesla Model 3, with a total of 296 units (1,412 units YTD), giving it a jump of three positions from the previous month. September was also the best performing month for the model since February. The fifth spot for September was secured by the BYD Atto 2, with 285 units (751 units YTD).

In sixth place was the BYD Sealion 7 – the second best-selling electric car in Malaysia has fallen one position from August, with 237 units sold (2,709 units sold YTD), while seventh place was taken by the Zeekr 7X, with 228 units sold. The model is new to the charts, and while it isn’t in the overall top 20 yet, expect it to enter that top 20 next month.
In eighth place was the BYD M6, with 85 units sold (1,261 units YTD), and in ninth place was the Xpeng The Denza D9 shared the sales award for September, which also sold 63 copies (850 copies YTD).
In 12th place was the BYD Seal, with 61 units sold (886 units YTD), while the next two positions were shared by the Chery Omoda E5 (60 units, 554 units YTD) and Zeekr 009 (60 units, 627 units YTD). The recently launched BYD Seal 6 EV was another newcomer to the charts, with 58 units sold. It will probably appear in the overall chart before the end of the year.

From here to 20th in the monthly list it’s the Leapmotor C10 (53 units, 278 units YTD) and the Porsche Macan (47 units, not in the overall top 20 list), followed by the iCaur 03, another newcomer with 34 units sold last month.
Rounding out the list are the Honda e:N1, which sold 33 units last month, bringing the total to 77 units, based on July and August sales figures, and the Porsche Taycan (31 units, 306 units YTD). With import and duty exemptions for CBU EVs set to expire on December 31, expect a surge in registrations to boost the numbers of many models in the run-off period.
