To visit the Lavezzi Islands in Corsica – a nice bootxcursie

What is it like to visit the Lavezzi Islands in Corsica? This archipelago is located just outside Bonifacio in southern Corsica and it is very popular to take boat trips here. For us it was a day trip to one of the most important islands, Lavezzu, a wonderful day in July.

The Lavezzi Islands in Corsica

The Lavezzi Islands (Lavezzi Islands in French or Lovezie Isuli In Corsican) there is a small group of granite islands, where the two most important islands have the names Cavallo and Lavezzu.

The Lavezzi Islands are just south of Banifacio in Corsica, between Corsica and Sardinia.

To visit the Lavezzi Islands

It is very popular to make excursions to the Lavezzi Islands, especially from Bonifacio, but also from Porto-Vecchio. In the port of Bonifacio there are large drives where an excursion company (SPMB Bonifacio) sells four different boat trips:

• Circuit 1: Grottorna Calanques Cliffs (50 min)
• Circuit 2: The caves falaizes Calanques with the glass bottom for view under water (1 hour 15 minutes)
• Circuit 3: Lavezzi Islands Nature Reserve With Glass bottom for view under water (2 hours)
• Circuit 4: Nature Reserve Lavezzi Islands (3o My boat trip there and 30 minutes boat trip back)

We have chosen “Circuit 4”, which is happiness, which means that you get on the Lavezzi Islands (more specifically the island of Lavezu) and the desired number of hours can stay before you return. The boats also go many times a day, and you don’t have to book in advance.

Boat trip to the Lavezzi Islands

The boat trip starts with tough through the beautiful harbor of Bonifacio, while you can watch the citadel and all the enormous luxury yachts.

Then you leave the mighty rock walls of Bonifacio and drive to the south, in the direction of Sardinia.

After 30 minutes you add the island of Lavezzu.

There are many different boats that arrive for one day, and every time a new group of tourists arrives …

Unique Rock formations

The island of Lavezzu has a unique nature with very special rock formations and a relatively bare green.

The rocks have soft, round shapes that often manage the imagination.

A cliff looks like a turtle and another as an old animal. And that, isn’t it an elephant in stone that stands there …?

It’s hard to stop foot. The landscape feels almost surrealistic …

Beautiful beaches

There are also many beautiful small beaches on the island. Narrow paths go between the beaches and you can just discover one after the other. On the first beaches we visited, it was pretty busy between the sun worshipers. Then we suddenly found a place where we had to be almost completely alone …

Plants and animals in the wild

When you visit the Lavezzi Islands, you must bear in mind that this is a nature reserve and that people must therefore be extra scared of nature. You don’t have to walk outside the paths, you don’t have to choose plants and you don’t have to fish. Of course you don’t have to do a rubble. The vegetation is, by the way, quite infertile – almost nothing is higher than the knee height – but still beautiful in his way.

We saw quite a few fish in the water and some birds. One of the birds was out of the crowd. This copywriter floated over one of the most tourist beaches and then made quick attacks on picnic baskets and people with a sandwich in their hand …

In one of the attacks, the bird (a young Mediterranean Strut?) Wait in Peter’s carefully transplanted toe. Maybe he thought there would be something edible there …? This bird was not a nice company and we chose to eat our lunch bag on another, more undisturbed beach …

Lunch with your own lunch bag

Once we had found our picnic beach, we actually had to eat completely in peace. We had a sourdough baguette, some salami, melon and grapes packed. Amazingly good! Moreover, we had three liters of water with us. There is nothing to buy on the island and not fresh water, so it’s important to bring everything you need!

Nice boat trip back

After a few hours of sunshine, swimming and walking it was time to go back. When we were here, the boats went once an hour, so it just went to the dock when it was time. After being in the queue for a while, it was time to go back!

Now it had changed again and it was pretty bloated. The boat went stably over the large waves and the water rushed in closest to the railing nearby.

Some children saw the adventure in general. They have equipped themselves with cyclops and met every wave that hung out of the boat as they thrown away from laughter.

To think about when you visit the Lavezzi Islands

If you are also planning to visit the Lavezzi Islands, it is best to check the current times before departure with the local operator. Keep in mind that the island of Lavezzu is completely uninhabited and that there are neither fresh water nor things. It is also very bad for shady places. Here are tips about what you can pack with you:

• Swimwear
• Bathing
• Sun/cap
• Sunscreen
• Parasol (can be good because it is bad for shadow. When we were here, we did well, but because it was frenning and sometimes cloudy.)
• Lots of water and/or other drink
• Lunch bags/snacks
• Bag or exchange to reduce the waste
• Mobile phone/camera
• Snorkel and Cyclops
