The Minnesota Timberwolves have confirmed the interest to reunite with former guard Malik Beasley. For many people, including myself, this is doubtful in view of the research that Beasley is coming off, how this movement could affect the wolves financially and how it does not fit in with the wolva roster needs. Regarding the last point, Beasley’s skills overlap with Donte Divincenzo’s, and he would disrupt the young talent of the wolves.
However, Tim Connelly and the rest of the Front Office of Minnesota are one of the best in the competition, so you have to give something.
What the interest of the wolves in Malik Beasley means for Donte Divincenzo
Strangely enough, Divincenzo was forced to sit from Eurobasket with a recurring toe injury. Although the Wolves were on it that they expect Divincenzo to be back before the start of the season, the Italy team made it more serious. Given their interest in Beasley, it is possible that the injury of Divincenzo is more serious than the wolves originally believed.
Another element that should be considered is that Divincenzo is eligible for a contract extension, but there have been no rumors about discussions. As a result, it is not far -fetched to believe that Divincenzo could be a commercial candidate if the wolves indeed sign Beasley.
Allegedly, Beasley is looking for a veteran for the minimum contract. The wolves can pay the exception of a middle level of a taxpayer, but it would ensure that they dive into the second apron. Going into the second apron, which has punitive restrictions and requires a huge financial obligation for Beasley, is unwise. However, if the wolves sign Beasley and then turn Divincenzo to get under the second apron, this movement would be more logical.
Both Beasley and Divincenzo are Elite Spot-Up Shooters that can be used the best of the ball. In particular, Beasley was second behind Anthony Edwards a total of 3-Pointers with the Detroit Pistons last season. Of course, some extra shooting is fun, but the wolves have to play more than shooting, and having two boys playing identical roles is not logical.
Beasley is perhaps a better version of Divincenzo; He was sure last season, at least. If they sign Beasley for a two -year -old MLE, he would have a cheaper contract and they can avoid some of the problems that a possible poses of Divincenzo Extension.
It is certainly possible that Divincenzo remains an important part of the core of the wolves. What the interest of the Timberwolves in Beasley shows me, however, is that the injury of Divincenzo is more serious than leaves Minnesota and/or consider them replaceable.
