Ferdinand Alexander Porsche is a legend in Zuffenhausen. He is best known as the father of the 911 and also brought to life icons such as the 904 Carrera GTS and the 804 Formula 1 car. Yesterday he would have turned 90 – and to mark the occasion, Porsche unveiled a very special tribute.

Meet the 911 GT3 FA Porsche, inspired by the G-Body 911 that Ferdinand drove in the eighties. It features custom FA Green metallic paint, a modern take on the Oak Green metallic of his original car. Inside, the bespoke cabin is finished in a unique fabric called FA Grid-Weave – a fresh interpretation of the classic houndstooth – and there’s even a wooden gear knob.

This GT3 is also the first and only model to wear Porsche’s elegant Sport Classic wheels, complete with custom center caps with the classic Porsche emblem. The ’72’ roundel on each of the door panels is a nod to the year Ferdinand founded Porsche Design, while special gold badging adorns the tailgate, and a ’90’ badge sits just above.

Porsche will build just 90 examples, each priced at $387,000 before costs. Each car comes with a matching Chronograph 1 timepiece and a matching Weekender travel bag.

One of those cars goes to Ferdinand’s son, Mark Porsche, who supervised the project from start to finish. “I’m sure my father would have loved this very special 911,” he says. “Many details of this exciting project were influenced by his personal taste.”

The FA model is based on the 911 GT3 with the Touring package, meaning it is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter six-cylinder that produces 502 hp and 331 Nm of torque. It sends that power to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.

So if you have $387,000 in your pocket, this historic 911 can be yours.
