Eddie Howe has given a wide variety of interview prior to the new season, where Alexander Isak is of course part of that conversation.

An excellent piece like Matthew Syed of the Times is allowed behind the scenes on the training ground of Newcastle United and looked at Eddie Howe at work with the players.

Worth reading the entire interview, but this small extract below gives us a lot of insight into the mindset of the head coach when dealing with the ‘situation of Alexander Isak’.

Eddie Howe says that Alexander Isak is of course not available to him. However, the United Boss says that he certainly thinks the situation is collected and that the outlook with the time that passes by can change.

As we all know, there is a chance that an Alexander Isak movement will take place, Liverpool should make an acceptable bid that is about £ 40 million higher than the weathering £ 110 million that was offered weeks ago and Newcastle United must sign two strikers.

Liverpool has shown a zero indication that they are willing to make a credible offer and while Yoane Wissa is expected to arrive as a replacement for Callum Wilson, finding a suitable replacement for Alexander Isak on this point is currently looking … Unlikely.

In 17 days the transfer window will close and as it decreases, the chances that Isak will leave this summer in the same way declining day after day.

However, as this interview makes clear, by far the most important person at Newcastle United is very clear and it is not Alexander Isak.

How happy are we to have Eddie Howe?

Eddie Howe talks to Matthew Syed van Time – August 14, 2025:

‘Howe takes a deep breath when we sit down for lunch after he has housed his coaching staff. This has been an unusually challenging summer in a club that has no sports director or a chief executive officer, which means that Howe – all the presidating figure at the club – has been stretched further than ever. And of course, looming about everything is the shadow of the “Isak situation”, the expression that everyone used at the club, not to mention the fans of Newcastle about the future of their star stitch. “He is such a great player,” I say rather Tritely by Alexander Isak. “Is the situation irreparable?”

“The word irreparable is not really in my dictionary,” Howe replies. “I think communication will be the key. At the moment we are in a position where he is not available, but I would like to think that we can re -assess as the situation develops. I think he will always acknowledge that this is a very special team and a very special club. It has been a difficult period because much of the media is negative, which is difficult on the players.

“The story spreads. We try to challenge that and say to the team:” We are okay. ” Yes, we are currently at least one massive player, but we do not yet know how that situation is fully dedicated and that is great.

Can you find someone to replace Isak during some remains of the transfer window, do I wonder? “We have a little time,” says Howe. “The problem we have is that we have not lost Alex alone [Isak] But also Callum Wilson from last season, so we are certainly actively looking for recruitment. We have a very good recruitment team, but as you know we miss a few important agreements [the absence of a CEO and director of football] So it was a challenge. Our recruitment at the club has been really strong so far. ” ‘

I cannot help myself to wonder if it is difficult to fully concentrate on training sessions with so much event outside the field. “You make a good point. It is probably true that the bigger impact can be had elsewhere, but everything I can control is here,” he says. “I have to ensure that my mind is absolutely focused on the 25 players who need my love, care and attention instead of players that we have not really drawn yet. As a coach, one of the most important parts of my work is to get the best out of every player and to improve them as much as possible. That is what I like to do.”
