Intriguing to read these comments from Spurs fans after the defeat to Newcastle United in North London.
The match ended 2–1 to United, Thiaw and Ramsey with the NUFC goals.
The big puzzle, however, was how on earth Spurs fans saw their team lose by just one goal.
Newcastle United were totally dominant but failed to score the number of goals the performance deserved.
Thomas Frank was sacked within hours of the defeat, leaving Spurs fans with a lot to say about him and their team, as well as Newcastle United.
Spurs fans are responding through their top supporters forum:
‘Painful watch.
We are really in a relegation battle.
Newcastle battered us in that first half, how many corners did they win? We couldn’t even get on the field without it looking like hard work.
The second half wasn’t much better, but held up for the most part.
It was good that we got back into it at home with our FIRST corner of the game, but the part that really concerned me was how Newcastle absolutely went for it and scored straight after. It’s such a sign of weakness on our part.”
‘With an inexperienced interim it can get even worse. I remember Stellini and the five goals in 20 minutes in Newcastle.’
‘Thomas Frank said after the game that he is confident he will still be in charge when we play Woolwich…
When I was a kid, my dad told me he dated Wonder Woman until he met my mom.
Since I didn’t know he was drunk and messing around, I told a kid at school and he didn’t believe me, so we ended up arguing about it!
Bless him!’
‘Gallagher stub their toe, turn the ball over, they go straight back and score with a beautiful finish from some c..t we’ve been wanting to sign for years.’
‘I just got out of the game.
I got home late because the guys spent time in the bar doing an autopsy on the consequences – the final insult. Instead of playing as a home team, we failed to take the game to Toon.
Early in the match there were warning signs where a Toon goal was disallowed for offside. But they didn’t hang their heads, they just got on with the game.
We woke up a bit and then continued playing s..t. Then Toon scored about 5 minutes later and it stood. Vicario parried the ball back into the danger zone and they scored a goal. I don’t think we had a shot on target in the first half.
The supporters booed them at half-time – I never booed, but I completely understand those who did. Down 0-1 at half time. In the second half we looked interested for once, it took about 10 minutes before we scored to take it to the next level. Once again Toon did not lose his head and within 5 minutes they restored the lead.’
‘That first half was a new low. Non-stop pressure and corners for Newcastle. I think Dan Burn spent more time in our box than in his own box.”
‘Newcastle had only won once away from home this season and that was Burnley. They lacked confidence, but dominated us from the first minute. Apart from a ten-minute period in the second half, they could have been playing with cigars in their mouths. We are the team everyone wants to play against when they need a confidence boost, but what is more alarming is that they would rather play against us in our stadium than against them.”
‘Was at work so couldn’t go. Couldn’t give the ticket away either.
Checked the score very quickly last night at 10:30 PM. Felt nothing. I just don’t care that much.
Maybe it will be fun again in the championship.’
‘We were at home and Newcastle knew we were there for the taking.’
‘What a lousy performance. There are absolutely no positives. The only moment I laughed was when we scored from our first corner – compared to the thirteen corners in Newcastle or something like that. Real comedy.’
‘Well, what a legacy Thomas left behind….
Now that it’s done and the book is closed on him, Frank is officially our worst manager EVER!
Christian Gross & Jaques Santini can rest easy again…’
“I honestly think that was the worst performance I’ve seen from us because we didn’t even try to do anything, we didn’t even try to clear the ball or move forward, we just constantly walked up the field, when we went forward we didn’t record any numbers, a lot of players just sat behind the ball and didn’t take any risks, so pathetic.”
‘I am desperate to find the backbone of our playing staff now that the manager has rightly been moved.’
‘I honestly don’t think we will go under, as long as we bring in the right people as interim
Arry and Robbie?’
‘It won’t be fun in the championship. We are not prepared for it.
Our gentle as they “players” won’t be able to play fools at the hawthorns or have to go to Bolton or wherever. It could take years to get out.”
‘We are rubbish, but you see this being said more and more about teams when the manager is terrible.
Another manager could certainly get more out of this group of players than Frank is doing now.’
‘I just don’t see that.
Newcastle brought Tonali off the bench, who walks into our team and plays every game. The same goes for Woltemade, which I don’t even rate.
What did we have on the couch tonight?
Muani and Tel wouldn’t even get a game for Wolves.
Newcastle had much more quality and firepower in their squad tonight. Fact. If we had everyone fit, I think we would have more quality.
“When I look at the two clubs who are both in form and betting on a result tonight and look at the squads, I’m going to Newcastle all day.”
‘Back from the match / that first half was something else, I didn’t know we were playing Barcelona at top level. However the players were a disgrace, they jogged around, no fight, no intensity and no idea what to do with the ball. Newcastle with 1 win in 8 will not have a more comfortable match this season. It’s almost like they’re ashamed that we scored against them, so they had to go forward and score again themselves.”
