  • Genesis has reportedly completed emissions and noise certifications for a facelifted G70.
  • This would be the second facelift of the rear-wheel drive sedan.
  • Previous rumors suggested that Genesis would discontinue the sedan after 2027.

We thought the Genesis G70 was dead. But the company has reportedly completed emissions and noise certifications in Korea for second facelift of the G70 sedan. The new tests reportedly coincide with the automaker improving vehicle safety to comply with stricter crash regulations.

According to Top driverThis modified version of the G70 should debut soon, and it’s our first indication that the sedan could survive 2027. An August report claimed that Genesis would discontinue the model after that year, but the luxury brand pushed back. In a statement to Engine1a Genesis spokesperson told us:

“We have no plans at this time to discontinue the G70.”

This doesn’t mean that Genesis won’t eventually call it quits. A second facelift for the model could see it stick around beyond 2027, but there’s still no confirmation from the automaker that it’s developing a second-generation replacement for its entry-level sedan.

Genesis offers the G70 with two engines: a 300-hp 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder or a 365-hp 3.3-liter turbocharged V6. Rear-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is optional. An eight-speed automatic is the only gearbox, but Genesis initially offered a manual transmission before discontinuing it.

It’s unclear when Genesis will unveil the updated G70 or if the automaker will make any major visual changes. According to the initial report, Genesis may have had to retest the vehicle due to the increased weight, which may not lead to an updated design.

Taking Motor1s: While this facelift could extend its lifespan after rumors that it would disappear in 2027, Genesis has not confirmed that it is developing a second-generation G70. As much as we love rear-wheel drive sedans, buyers prefer crossovers and SUVs, and Genesis would be wise to expand that lineup rather than invest in a sports sedan. It’s just reality, but rumors that the G70 is a one-generation model are not new.
