Manchester City are considering a move for Brentford full-back Michael Kayode as Pep Guardiola tries to solve City’s defensive problems.
Twenty-one-year-old defender Kayode has quickly become one of the hottest prospects in the Premier League.
The Italy youth international has made rapid progress since joining Brentford from Fiorentina last season.
He has played a total of 37 games for the Bees in a season and a half in West London.
And his excellent performance has not gone unnoticed.
Premier League giants Manchester City have kept a close eye on Kayode since his arrival in England.
But it now appears Pep Guardiola is ready to bring the young full-back to the Etihad.
City’s injury problems have made clear the need for reinforcements.
In Kayode they would recruit a technically gifted, intelligent player with speed and discipline on both sides of the ball.
No formal approach has yet been taken, but City’s interest is concrete and long-term.
The club have already signed Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo this season.
City confirmed the deal this week with Semenyo’s shirt number will be the same as club legend Yaya Toure.
Brentford will not sell Kayode to Man City cheaply
Although he doesn’t set the ground on fire and hasn’t registered a goal or assist this season, Kayode’s quality comes from his consistency.
He is rock solid defensively, mature beyond his years and has pocketed countless elite strikers time and time again.
Primarily a right-back, he can also play on the left and even fill a wide role in midfield if necessary.

However, Brentford will not simply let their man go.
Keith Andrews has performed wonders this season, taking his side to a record fifth place in the Premier League.
With four years left on Kayode’s contract, the club is under no pressure to sell.
So it would take a bid much higher than the reported £18m paid to Fiorentina last summer for Brentford to consider a deal.
Early indications are that any bid should be closer to Ā£40 million, given Brentford’s strong position and desire to extract maximum value.
City face stiff competition for Brentford Star
Manchester City are also not the only Premier League team interested in Kayode.
Both Newcastle and Tottenham are long-time admirers and may be tempted to make a move in the summer.
On the continent, Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are keeping an eye on the defender.
And a return to Italy cannot be ruled out, as Juventus and Inter Milan are also interested.

With so many clubs eyeing Kayode, Brentford’s position at the negotiating table will only be strengthened.
Keen to retain one of their top young talents, they can afford to be patient.
If half a dozen top clubs try to outbid each other, Brentford can cash in on a hugely profitable sale and reinvest.
If not, they will retain one of the most promising defensemen in the league, whose value will only increase.
Should Manchester City sign Michael Kayode?
As for whether City should pull the trigger and sign Kayode, there are plenty of arguments in favor.
At 21, he wouldn’t be a guaranteed starter. But his potential and age profile could see him develop into a truly elite player at Etihad.

And given City’s lack of depth in his position, signing a specialist right-back with Premier League experience seems like a smart move.
But spending almost £40 million for someone who is likely to be on the bench for at least the first year may be overkill.
Furthermore, while Kayode would undoubtedly like to play for a club like City, he could look elsewhere to see if other top clubs can offer more guaranteed playing time.
However, Brentford has all the power in this. And if City want their man, they will have to accept his current club’s price tag.
