Prostate cancer UK’s flagship golf fundraising, The Great Golf RaceDid Records destroyed in 2025 and so far raised more than £ 1.25 million this year. The total marks a significant increase compared to last year and takes the total fundraising figure since the event was launched to more than £ 5.6 million in 2020.
More than 17,300 golfers have now participated in the national challenge, which invites players to hire 36, 72 or even 100 holes in one day to support men affected by prostate cancer, the most common cancer in England.
This year a number of well -known names participated in the effort. YouTube star Rick Shiels, one of the world’s most viewed golf makers, completed the debilitating 100-hole “Ultra Marathon” in addition to his cameraman Ben Wright, whose father lives with advanced prostate cancer.
Short-game specialist than Grieve played 36 holes with his three young children, while television personality and Gladiators Star Jamie Christian, better known as “Giant”, took on the 72-hole challenge as a tribute to his uncle, who has recovered from the disease.
Christian has already picked up more than £ 2,000 and continues his awareness efforts by competing in the Betfred British Masters Pro-Am this week in the Belfry, with the distinctive ‘man of men’ Insigne of charity.
But it was not only famous faces that the headlines made. At Beaconsfield Golf Club, 72 golfers each completed 100 holes in a single day, making £ 225,000 an amazing £ 225,000. In Cornwall, PGA professional Nick Brewaeys and Ross Lawrance established a Guinness World Record by playing 184 holes in 21 hours and 45 minutes – three more than the previous record – who generated more than £ 5,500.
“This year’s big golf race has been downright phenomenal, and the stories about determination and creativity that we have heard of participants are really inspiring,” said Seren Evans, head of events and community funds at Prostate Cancer UK.
“We have seen more golfers than ever the challenge of the challenge and push themselves physically and mentally on the track to recruit vital funds that can save lives. Every pound brings us closer to better tests, better treatments and ultimately a remedy.”
Research commissioned by the charity emphasizes both the popularity and the importance of Golf and a platform for consciousness.
Two -thirds of the golfers acknowledge the involvement of prostate cancer in the UK in the sport, more than any other organization and 81% believe that the partnership is very suitable.
Nevertheless, the study also showed that only 52% of golf clubs are currently supporting a good cause, despite the fact that 77% of golfers said that they or someone they know were struck by prostate cancer. Among golfers aged 65 and older, that figure increases to 82%.
In addition to fundraising, the event creates lasting memories and strengthening community ties. Ninety -one percent of the participants said they appreciated that they participated with friends, while 81% saw it as an opportunity to spend more quality time together.
Encouragingly said that more than half of the golfers surveyed said they would register in the future.
“One in eight men is diagnosed with prostate cancer,” Evans added. “The next time you are in your golf club, take the time to look around and count, those figures are real. That is why increasing the awareness of the risk of prostate cancer is so important, along with the fundraising to finance life -saving research.”
With more than 32,000 golfers who are now working on fundraising programs from The Great Golf Race For the charity initiatives of Captain and Club Partnerships, Prostate Cancer UK continues to strengthen its bond with the sport. And with the record -breaking total of this year, the golf community has again proven itself a powerful force in the fight against prostate cancer.
