Since Viktor (£ 9.0 million) arrived in North Londs, Armed with its impressive 89% scoring record of penalties, There has been some discussion about whether the striker would take over Spot-Kick tasks from Bukayo from (£ 10.0 million).
What arteta said before
Mikel Arteta donated fuel to that fire at the end of July and said:
“Well, I am sure he will intervene if they allow him to do this, because, as you say, he has been very consistent and he has scored many goals, but we have a number of other penalties, also really good. So they will solve it and if not, I will intervene at the right time!” – Mikel Arteta about the power of Viktor Gyokees from the penalty spot
Sportsbladeet Claim
This week, the mostly reliable Sports magazineThe fact that the inside of the transfer from gyokeres to Arsenal seemed to have promoted the intrigues to begin with.
Within that Paywall article, Daniel Kristoffersson of the Swedish newspaper that Gyokeres “has been selected as a penalty toning for the club for the coming season”.
Arteta to ESPN Brasil on his ‘Best Penalty Taker’
The biggest indication so far, however, comes from a Quickfire Q&A that Arteta did with ESPN Brasil, posted in recent days.
The Arsenal -Baas was asked a series of questions, from Best Finisher (Saka) to Best Header (Gabriel Magalhaes (£ 6.0 million)). One of them, possibly telling, was ‘best penalty taker’ – and Arteta answered with Gyokees.

Saka v Gyokeres v Odegaard: Take penalty record
| Taken pens | Scored pens | Pen Success percentage | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gyokeese | 38 | 34 | 89.5% |
| By | 16 | 13 | 81.3% |
| Odegaard | 5 | 4 | 80% |
The recent record of Gyokees is even better: he took a ridiculous 20 in all competitions last season and scored them all.
Saka and Odegaard, on the other hand, have both missed their most recent efforts of 12 meters.
Who took the penalties from Arsenal last season?
| Fine | Result | Were Saka + Odegaard on the field? |
|---|---|---|
| Trossard (UCL, October 22) | Missed | No, not even |
| Saka (UCL, November 26) | Scored | Yes, both |
| Odgeead (PL, November 30) | Scored | Yes, both |
| Saka (PL, November 30) | Scored | Yes, both |
| Odegaard (FAC, January 12) | Missed | Odegaard yes, foot no |
| Jorgihho (UCL, January 29) | Scored | Odegaard yes, foot no |
| Sterling (UCL, January 29) | Missed | Odegaard yes, foot no |
| Saka (UCL, April 16) | Missed | Yes, both |
We removed the table above from our summer article, which was published before Gyokeres arrived.
Apparently Saka was the first choice – But as happened earlier, He had someone else muscles on the action.
The English international and Martin Odegaard (£ 8.0 million) Arsenal’s only scored two Premier League fines of 2024/25. They came in the same game (V West Ham United in GameWeeke 13) and every player scored with the other on the field!
How is Saka’s record without punishments?
| Season | Starts (Sub apps) | Goals scored | Non-pen goals scored | XG | Non Sala XG |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2024/25 | 20 (5) | 6 | 5 | 6.85 | 6.06 |
| 2023/24 | 35 (0) | 16 | 10 | 15.50 | 10.77 |
| 2022/23 | 37 (1) | 14 | 12 | 11.44 | 9.08 |
| 2021/22 | 36 (2) | 11 | 9 | 10.70 | 9.13 |
| 2020/21 | 30 (2) | 5 | 5 | 6.90 | 6.90 |
| 2019/20 | 19 (7) | 1 | 1 | 0.97 | 0.97 |
Saka would not have really damaged a lack of penalties last season, because he only scored one.
In his best FPL season of 2023/24, he would have fallen to the 20th without spotkicks from the ninth in the XG classification.
Wise would not have dropped penalties 30+ points with the lost goals/bonus, although he had had one assist instead, after he won one of the six he converted.
Indeed, without pens he would have received no more than 200 points in FPL in one of his seasons.
Last thoughts
So then, a potential boost for Gyokees after his so-called debut against Manchester United.
Not only can he have fines in his locker, but also his most important positional rival, Kai Havertz (£ 7.5 million), Is now injured.
Until we see the ball on the spot, it is of course all rumor – even when it comes from the mouth of Arteta. He has been “the players who decide the field” from the school in the pastSo even he may not have the last word.
Saka is now still a phenomenal player and a nice imaginative choice but the only one of the five £ 10.0 million assets without spot-kick tasks (assuming it Alexander Isaac (£ 10.4 million) Stay in Newcastle United …!) Is somewhat somewhat.
