Stoke City defender Junior Tchamadeu has been one of the best players in the Championship this season, but his discipline can be improved.

Stoke City have had an incredible start to their campaign. The Potters are currently third in the table heading into the international break and look set for a successful season in the Championship.

Mark Robins had a tough job keeping SCFC in the second tier last season, but after a full preparation under his belt he has transformed his team into real promotion candidates.

One player who has been a standout for the Potters this campaign is defender Junior Tchamadeu. The 21-year-old was a mainstay in the first-team squad last season and is making a real difference under Robins.

However, the Cameroon international has struggled with his discipline this season and could hamper Stoke City’s chances of promotion this season if his number of yellow cards continue to pile up.

Junior Tchamadeu was huge for Stoke City

Stoke City suffered alone their fourth loss of the season against leaders Coventry City last weekend and only conceded their tenth goal of the campaign. Robins has done an excellent job of sorting out the defence, and Tchamadeu has played a crucial role at right-back at both ends of the pitch.

Junior Tchamadeu stats for Stoke City

According to FotMobThe 21-year-old has a crossing accuracy of 40% this season and has completed 10 successful dribbles. His work on defense can also be commended with 35 tackles and 63 games won so far.

The Cameroonian has scored once for SCFC this season. It came after the full-back ran half the pitch against Bristol City. The former Colchester United man’s natural attacking instincts are exceptional and make him one to watch for the future.

Junior Tchamadeu needs to improve his discipline

Despite his consistent performances for Stoke City this season, the number of yellow cards Tchamadeu has received is worrying. Eight bookings in fourteen games isn’t a great statistic, and multiple suspensions over the course of a season only hurts the Potters’ chances of making it into the play-offs.

The 21-year-old is still very early in his career having risen through the ranks at Charlton Athletic and Colchester United. His ceiling could be right at the top, but if his discipline doesn’t improve soon, clubs in the higher leagues won’t be interested in a potential move.

SCFC has little cover on the right side of the defense. If the Cameroon international were to miss several matches, it could affect the finish in the competition. Reliability will be crucial for Robins, and the youngster will need to show him he is capable of that trait.
