Former Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick could be in line for a return to football management.
United career
The elegant midfielder spent 12 seasons at Old Trafford after joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2006.
Carrick played 464 games for the club and scored 24 goals.
He retired in the 2017-2018 season and became assistant coach at Old Trafford.
The Englishman was temporarily put in charge of the team when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked, but did not stay on when Ralf Rangnick was appointed manager.
Middlesbrough Course
Carrick impressed during his time as manager at Boro, reaching the Championship play-offs and the League Cup semi-finals.
He was manager at the club until June this year, when he was sacked for failing to make the play-offs.
Carrick has been linked with the Wolverhampton Wanderers job in recent weeks.
In an interview with the BBC recently, Carrick kept his cards close to his chest and pledged no commitment to a quick return to football management.
Swansea City favourites
Carrick could soon be given the opportunity to return to the Championship, with Swansea City looking for a new manager following the sacking of Alan Sheehan.
The Daily Mail reports that “Swansea’s attention has now turned to appointing his successor, with former Man United midfielder Michael Carrick the bookmakers’ early favorite for the role.”
It is also stated that Carrick will face competition for the job from Gary O’Neil, Brendan Rodgers and former Swedish manager Kim Hellberg.
If appointed as manager, Carrick would work alongside former United Carrington product, Ethan Galbraith.
