Tennis, ATP Finals 2025: Jannik Sinner becomes first semifinalist with big win over Alexander Zverev

ATP Finals 2025 – Sinner finds the edge and secures a spot in the semi-finals on home soil

Sinner undoubtedly loves playing for the Italian faithful, and Wednesday turns out to be his seventh straight ATP Finals win in straight sets. That’s a 12e ATP Tour victory on the vault for the second seed, who advances to the last four.

All the stars were out for the Olympic doubles champion’s blockbuster evening match Jasmine Paolini to the Milan football manager Massimiliano Allegri. The No. 2 and No. 3 seeds battled it out for the right to top the Bjorn Borg Group.

Zverev had to play aggressively if he had any chance of beating the defending champions for the first time in five meetings. He forced two break points in the opening game, which Sinner saved both times with aces through the middle.

Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Zverev served well overall, but not facing a single break point all set, he felt the pressure in a 17-point rally to hand his rival two set points in the 10th game.

Sinner needed a third to clinch the set with a deft net volley, leaving the German to rue his chances and allowing the Italian to move one step closer to the last four. He was now in full swing, although Sinner had to save three break points from 0-40 before remaining at 2-1.

The world number 2 broke Zverev again with a sumptuous drop shot across the court for 4-2, with a fist pump being the only emotion the icy Italian showed. He finished the match without breaking a sweat to book his passage to the semi-finals of the year-end finals.
