Elena Colas from France

One of the most high-profile female athletes coming to the Junior World Cup was France’s Elena Colas.

Colas, 15, trains at the same gym – Avoine-Beaumont – that became the Olympic uneven bars champion in Paris 2024 Kaylia Nemour worked before making a change this season, and has already had great success in her career.

At the 2024 European Junior Championships, Colas won team, all-around and uneven bars titles, along with bronze on vault.

In Manila, Colas helped France to the team gold medal with a total of 55.766. That score – taking into account all the usual caveats when comparing scores from one competition to another, especially in a junior versus senior context – was higher than any total at October’s senior worlds in Jakarta.

However, Colas struggled somewhat at the Junior World Championships, falling off the uneven bars in the all-around final and settling for silver.

“It wasn’t as good as yesterday, but still I’m happy because I fought all the way,” Colas then told the FIG. “I’m a little disappointed with my match, but I guess I didn’t realize that this is still a world medal, and that it’s still really something.”

Still, her performances from Manila and beyond show that she is someone who needs to see this four-year anniversary.
