T20 World Cup 2026: Eden Gardens in Kolkata likely to host semi-finals, Mumbai also in race | CricTracker

The semi-finals of the 2026 T20 World Cup will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. No official announcement has been made yet as to where the final will be played.

The tournament is jointly organized by India and Sri Lanka. The last tournament where both boards were co-hosts was during the 2011 ODI World Cup, with Bangladesh being the third hosting nation that year. The International Cricket Council recently identified eight venues where the matches will take place in February and March next year.

According to screambuzzBesides Ahmedabad and Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai will also host matches. As for Sri Lanka, the SLC has targeted Colombo and Kandy as the two host cities. Both the SCC and RPS will host games in Colombo. The location for the summit clash will depend on whether one of the finalists will be Pakistan or not. If they fail to qualify, it will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

As for the semi-final, the match will be played in Colombo if Sri Lanka or Pakistan reach that stage. If neither team makes it to the last four legs, both matches will be played in India. If the Men in Green reach the final, the match will be played in Colombo and not in any of the Indian venues.

An International Cricket Council press release last month stated that the 20-team tournament will be played in the same format as the 20-over event to be played in 2024. There will be four separate groups, consisting of five teams each. In addition to the 13 test countries, Canada, the Netherlands, the UAE, Nepal, Oman and Namibia will also be featured. Italy will also make its debut at the global tournament.

The group stage is followed by the Super Eights stage, in which there are two groups, with each group consisting of four teams. India won the previous edition played in the US and West Indies by beating South Africa in the final. Sri Lanka had finished third in their group and failed to reach the next stage. According to Cricbuzz, the ICC is expected to announce the schedule and groupings in the coming days.
