Star Indian player Virat Kohli may be at the end of his international career, and his former teammate AB de Villiers has urged Virat’s fans to celebrate and support Kohli, whatever his decision, to find balance in his life.
Virat Kohli made an inspiring return to international cricket against Australia. Although he initially missed out on points, he dominated the Australian attack in Sydney, scoring a stunning 74*. He has already retired from the Test and T20I formats and will remain active in ODI cricket only.
“He deserves a thank you,” AB de Villiers calls on fans to celebrate Virat Kohli
After the stunning innings of 74 runs, AB de Villiers, the former RCB teammate of Indian legend Virat Kohli, urged fans to celebrate him as a cricketer. He also appealed to them and made the Indian player find balance in his life.
Your daily dose of cricket!
“I want to remind you that this is the kind of player you want to celebrate. Give him the chance to find his balance in life at the end of his career. Just celebrate him. He changed the game forever. He deserves a little ‘thank you’, and hopefully you play for another five years. If you don’t, we have your back,” De Villiers said on his YouTube channel.
“In my opinion, the 2027 World Cup will be Virat Kohli’s last chapter in international cricket.” – AB de Villiers
AB de Villiers believes the 2027 Cricket World Cup will be Virat Kohli’s last international assignment in India colours. However, he hopes that Kohli will continue to play in the IPL for years to come after his retirement from internationals.
“In my opinion, the 2027 World Cup will be his last attempt to put the icing on the cake at the end of his career,” said AB de Villiers.
“The IPL is a different story. We might see him leave for three, four or even five years. It doesn’t take much out of you even though it is a very intense tournament. You can prepare for those two to three months but a World Cup is a four-year cycle,” said the former South Africa player.
“Really a big build-up and takes a lot of the body and the system and the space in which you try to find yourself, family time. We’ve often heard Virat talk about how important that is for him,” ABD said of Kohli, putting family life above everything else.
ABD reveals Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s role in the team
AB de Villiers also sheds light on the impact of veteran cricketers like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma on the team and the motivation they impart to their younger generations.
“He (Virat) plays a big role mentally in that team. The kind of confidence the youngsters get from his presence, you can’t put a number on that. It’s irreplaceable.”
“The kind of impact they (Virat and Rohit Sharma) have on the players around them and the trust the other players get from them is absolutely huge. Never forget that even if they don’t perform sometimes, they have a huge impact,” de Villiers concluded.
