After going almost three years without a stakes win, The Sky Is Falling has now made it two in one season.
The 6-year-old daughter of Cupid rallied from far and wide to capture Friday night’s $75,950 My Sister Pearl Stakes for West Virginia-bred fillies and mares at the Hollywood Casino during the Charles Town Races, adding to her Sadie Hawkins victory in August.

Ridden by Arnaldo Bocachica for owner David M. Raim and trainer Jeff Runco, The Sky Is Falling settled well behind Petty Perfect’s early pace, then launched a four-wide rally into the far turn. She flew past the leaders at the sixteenth pole and rode clear to win by 2 ¾ lengths in 1:55.79 for 1 1/8 miles on a fast track.
Petty Perfect shook off the pressure midway through the race to hold a clear lead with a furlong to go, but had to settle for second, with Shewonttalktome a further 1 3/4 lengths back in third.
Bred in West Virginia by Catherine K. Jennings and Scott Mallory, The Sky Is Falling has now won 13 of 31 career starts and earned $477,650. She was a stakes winner at both two and three, but failed to win a stakes at four or five, but has revived her career this year with two major state wins. She is 4-for-6 this season.
Runco and Bocachica both doubled on the card.
NOTES Trained by Ronney Brown for Hubert Brown, My Sister Pearl won multiple stakes during her racing career, which ended in 2002. In all, she won nine of thirty and earned more than $157,000. Her most notable performance came in an allowance race in January 2001, when she set a still-standing track record of 1:43.83 for 1 1/16 miles, winning by 14 3/4 lengths…
