Sydney Swans List Player Riak Andrew will be suspended for five weeks from VFL and AFL competitions, after he was found guilty of using a “very offensive homophobic slur”.
The incident happened last weekend in a VFL match, where Andrew had made a lubricant to an opponent in Noord -Melbourne during the first quarter.
The incident was reported to a referee by Noord -Melbourne at the end of the quarter.
Andrew will also be proud of sport education, according to a media release of the competition.
“It is important that we continue to make it clear that homophobia or homophobic language is not at any level or in the broader community,” said Afl general adviser Stephen Meade.
“It is disappointing to go with another incident, and although we will always investigate the individual circumstances, the clear message is that this language is not acceptable at a workplace, and that includes playing.”
The incident with Andrew barely comes a week after the midfielder Jack Graham van de Westkust got a spell of four games for using a homophobic Slur during a match against the GWS Giants.
Three AFL players were suspended for the use of homophobic blemish during competitions in 2024.
Wil Powell van Gold Coast (five games) and Jeremy Finlayson of Port Adelaide (three games) were banned in the Afl.
Lance Collard from St. Kilda received a fine of six games after a blemish on two Williamstown players in a VFL fixture.
