After facing accusations of industrial planting at the VMAs, rising star Sombr faced a new wave of criticism, this time aimed at his body.
Sombr, real name Shane Michael Boose, shot to fame after releasing his debut album I Barely Know Her this summer, which spawned three top 10 hits in Britain.
The Undressed singer, 20, revealed how a woman’s video complaining about his recent concert unleashed a ‘huge body shaming hate train’ against him.
She had attended his performance in Washington on October 3 and posted a nearly nine-minute TikTok about the “cringe” experience, which quickly snowballed.
In her rant, in addition to “hating” his performance, the content creator labeled Sombr as “slim man” and made fun of his dancing.
“I’m going to explain to you why, if you’re over 16, you shouldn’t spend your money on a Sombr concert,” the 25-year-old began her now-viral video.

She compared the experience to “a high school dance” and criticized the fans for being so young and taking pictures together before criticizing the opener for “sucking.”
More than three and a half minutes in, she described Sombr’s entrance on stage and complained that he was making “niche” references and meme jokes for the audience.
Sombr’s “Dating Show” segment was a particular sticking point for the content creator, who found it “inappropriate” and “selfish.”
“It just doesn’t seem like he knows how to entertain,” she said. ‘He might be too young. Maybe he still needs to grow into it. Don’t know. Dancing was terrible, singing was terrible.’
She then turned to the “tweens” in the crowd who said, “This is my generation’s David Bowie,” expressing her confusion at the hype surrounding him.
“I’m so sorry, slim man? We choose him, we choose that weird dancing guy?’ she said, comparing him to Napoleon Dynamite.
Since posting the TikTok, it has been viewed more than 5,000,000 times, with the creator posting several follow-up videos, including one that escalated a feud with the opening act.
Inevitably, the video came to the attention of Sombr, who posted a brief response saying he “respected” her opinion but pointed out her own “skill problem.”
“I thought I was chronically online,” Sombr said. “But I just noticed there’s a TikTok drama going around because a 25-year-old attended my concert and basically complained that there were too many teenagers, that I made too many brain rot jokes, and she just thought it was a cringe concert.”

He continued, “Also, she was body shaming me and it has started a huge body shaming hate train that is targeting me on a lot of videos of me on the internet right now.”
Videos dissecting the viral complaint had surfaced on the app, sparking debate over whether the review was fair or not.
Sombr said: ‘I completely respect people having an opinion, but I’m a 20-year-old artist, only 20. And if you’re 25 years old and you go to my concert and don’t expect people to be younger than you, while as an artist I’m five years younger than you, then it’s just a matter of skills.’
He added that he is rarely “serious” and that his humor is only part of his personality, but clarified that he was joking for “five minutes” and singing the rest.

“Live a little, enjoy life,” he concluded. ‘Any age, gender, sexuality, gender, race: everyone is welcome at my concert, and I mean everyone. You guys need to find problematic people to hate because I just exist.”
Further thoughts on whether this was the correct answer continued to exacerbate the debate online, but Sombr returned to his usual message.
The content creator posted another five-minute reaction video with the caption, “At least PR isn’t my skill problem,” but most people seem to be letting the problem go away now.
