Third manager of the season agrees to take over job at Nottingham Forest – Sky Sports

Nottingham Forest sacked Ange Postecoglou on Saturday after his five Premier League games yielded one point.

That dismissal created Premier League history, as we pointed out (see below).

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis sacked Ange Postecoglou just 39 days after giving him the job, a new Premier League-era record for a permanent managerial appointment that took so little time.

Nuno Espirito Santo played just three Premier League games of the season and was sacked after scoring four points in three PL games.

Now Sky Sports have revealed the latest news on Monday morning that Marinakis has agreed a verbal agreement with a third manager of the season after just eight games.

The Nottingham Forest owner is bringing in Sean Dyche, with a formal finalization of the appointment expected very soon.

Sky Sports reports that following the huge costs of sacking Nuno and his back-up staff AND now Ange Postecoglou and his back-up staff, due to PSR concerns, Nottingham Forest have had to look for a currently unemployed manager where they won’t have to pay compensation…

Air sports report – October 20, 2025:

‘Sean Dyche has verbally agreed to take over as the new manager of Nottingham Forest.

Negotiations were progressing late on Sunday evening, with both sides keen to reach a deal quickly, and in time for Dyche to have some time to prepare the team for Thursday’s Europa League match against Porto.

There are still some final legal details to be sorted out, Sky Sports News has been told, and paperwork still to be signed, but he could be confirmed in the role later on Monday.

Marinakis has looked at several names and has a long-standing admiration for Fulham boss Silva since taking charge of his Olympiacos team.

But Sky Sports News has been told that Forest would currently struggle to pay compensation for a new manager due to their PSR restrictions, which had not budgeted for three different managers in the same season, especially after just eight games.

Forest have already paid significant compensation to Nuno Espirito Santo and his backroom staff, who were sacked last month, and now face a similar, large bill for sacking Postecoglou and his coaches.”

The Mag Report – October 19, 2025:

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis sacked Nuno Espirito Santo on September 9, 2025 after the manager took four points from the first three Premier League games of the season, before announcing Ange Postecoglou as his replacement the same day.

Just 39 days later, Evangelos Marinakis set a new Premier League record.

On Saturday, it was announced in the briefest of statements (see below) that Ange Postecoglou had been sacked after scoring one point from five Premier League matches.

Postecoglou was sacked just minutes after the 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea, after watching his players dominate the first half and should have won the match before half-time. Instead, Forest came out and conceded quickly four minutes later, and the writing was on the wall.

Ahead of Saturday’s match, there were rumors that the Forest owner was already looking for replacements.

Perhaps Marinakis can soon set a new Premier League record.

The 39 days Ange Postecoglou has lasted the least time as a permanent Premier League manager.

They are already on the verge of becoming their third manager of the season, with just eight Premier League games played. You wonder how long the new manager will last if results don’t improve…?

Nottingham Forest official statement – October 18, 2025:

‘Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that following a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect.

The Club has no further comment to make at this time.”
