In recent years, digital freedom and state control is increasingly striking worldwide. In Russia, the limitation of coded messages can slow down the spread of cryptocurrencies, while in the European Union a disputed draft legislation would make private discussions transparent for the authorities. The common denominator is the same: the States would increasingly catch the reins of digital communication, which causes serious concerns about the inviolability of privacy.
Russia would be on the path of the adjustment of cryptocurrency
The Russian government in recent times began to limit safe, coded calls The most popular platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram. The official reason is to reduce terrorism and fraud, but in fact the measures distract the public to the interface of the State Reports Max. For more than 100 million Russian users, the possibility of private and anonymous communication is reduced, which is particularly sensitive to cryptocurrencies.
One of the requirements for accepting digital money is respect for privacy and anonymity. If the state is able to investigate messages, crypto transactions can easily be traced. This discourages ordinary users and companies that have so far regarded the crypto as a refuge of inflation, sanctions or economic uncertainty. For this reason, it is expected that the fintech sector will be looking for an alternative: decentralized applications, zero-knowledge proof-based solutions and private communication tools can give companies new ways.
Arrives in the European Chatkontroll
The European Union also has a fierce debate: according to the famous “Chatkontroll” bill, all Messagons would be needed to automatically scan private conversations to filter out illegal content and criminal activities. During the Danish chairmanship, the proposal was accelerated and it can come into force in October 2025 if you manage to get a majority. Although the European Parliament calls for a milder version that they only investigate the messages from suspects, the mass of the population and the data protection organizations would still mean to influence fundamental rights.
Proponents, including Italy, Spain and Hungary, see the future in safety, while other countries, such as Belgium, Austria or Estonia, warn of serious data protection and democratic risks. As the Legal Service of the European Council stated:
“The fundamental problems of access to the communication of all users remain unchanged.”
Freedom, technology and boundaries
Whether it is Moscow or Brussels, central powers are increasingly preparing for introducing systems that would increase their control at the expense of digital freedom. Russian prohibitions are forced to distract fintech companies to new innovations, and EU Chatkontroll asks themselves to question the meaning of coded communication fundamentally. The common denominator is to strengthen the need for decentralized technologies, cryptocurrencies and coding algorithms.
The following months can be crucial: if the EU accepts regulations, this is the largest control system in the history of the continent, which will probably strengthen the demand for digital refugees – crypto, blockchain, decentralized networks. One thing is certain: in the digital age, the limits of freedom are not only rewritten on a social front, but also on a technological level.
