Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retired from T20is and tests, and both are now focusing on the ODI World Cup 2027.
The tournament will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. However, there are only nine ODIs left for the two loyal stablewarts until January 2026.
Reports recently claimed that Rohit and Virat could play their last ODI series against Australia in October.
It has also been mentioned that both players can be asked to appear in the Vijay Hazare trophy if they want to expand their ODI career and play the World Cup.
The two players started training for the coming overseas assignment. Virat works in London, while Rohit trains in Mumbai. Both have undergone fitness tests for the season.
Rohit’s yo-yo test was held in the Center of Excellence in Bengaluru, while Virat’s tests were performed in London.
Speaking with Hindustan Times, said former South Africa battery Daryll Cullinan that the veterans should continue to play competitive cricket. He emphasized that the ability and experience are not enough without regular match exercise.
Cullinan said that players cannot just choose and expect a few games. He added that Rohit and Virat have to play a serious amount of cricket to be in the right mental and physical framework.
He suggested that the duo could occur in the Vijay Hazare -Trophy or even the India a versus Australia an ODI series in Kanpur.
“The rut of international cricket is needed. If they are fit and play enough cricket, then yes. But everything less, and I would say no. India should continue,” Cullinan said.
