India will defend the Asia Cup next month in the United Arab Emirates. The Eight Team Tournament starts on September 9, with Afghanistan taking on the Hong Kong in the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
The India campaign starts the next day while they lock Hoorns with hosts of the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The men in Blue will arrive in the VAE on 4 September. However, the latest reports suggest that the entire team will not travel to the West Asian country together.
According to a report from NDTV Sports, the team members will reach the VAE in batches. The team usually gathered in Mumbai before it leaves together for a tournament. However, the team members can travel from their respective cities for logistics convenience. India will have their first training session in the VAE on 5 September.
“All players will arrive in Dubai by the evening of 4 September and the first Nets session will be held on 5 September at the ICC Academy. Logistics Convenience will be able to fly to Dubai from their respective cities,” a high BCCI officer was quoted by the above source.
The 2025 edition of the Asia Cup is played in the T20 format. The Indian team is led by Suryakumar Yadav, while Shubman Gill is mentioned as his deputy.
“It is clear that a few will travel from Mumbai, but some of the others ask to first come to Mumbai and then fly to Dubai, is not logical. In any case, Dubai is a short-duration flight compared to other international flights,” the civil servant added.
The last White-Ball assignment from India was the Champions Trophy 2025, which they won under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. Incidentally, that tournament was also held in the VAE. India is the most successful team in the history of Asia Cup and has won the continental competition eight times.
