There is not much time left in the regular season, but Rhett Lowder tries to get back in time to see action in the big competitions in 2025. Lowder treated elbow problems last winter when he started throwing and preparing for spring training. This led him to land on the injured list as soon as it was available in the spring. At the beginning of May he was ready to start a rehabilitation assignment and he made four starts between the Arizona Complex League Reds, the Dayton Dragons and the Louisville Bats. In the latter start for Louisville he injured his oblique and it has been almost four months ago since then.
This evening Rhett Lowder was back on the hill for Louisville while they took the Toledo Mud chickens. It was his first performance since May 22. Lowder threw 2.0 innings on the day. He would give up a point on two hits and a hit batter. The right -handed starter also eliminated two of the nine batters with whom he was confronted. In general, he threw 34 throws with 25 of them strikes.
From a speed position he threw the Fastball in the 94 MPH range and was just over 95 km / h. He also mixed in his slider and changed. The slider received three swings and miss, while the 2-seizer got two swings and miss.
The Cincinnati Reds, including tonight’s game, only have 15 games left in the season. They are only 1.5 games from the last Wildcard spot, so there is still a chance that they could go on a run for the next two and a half week and push themselves into the play-offs. If they could get there, adding Lowder to the pitching staff would probably be pretty affordable. Of course the Reds have many things they have to do before that can happen.
