The future of Quinn Hughes in Vancouver again leads to the NHL -Handelsgatter, and at least one source suggests that the Canucks can soon be forced to seriously consider a blockbuster. With another two years about his contract and the team struggling to compete in the Western Conference, Hughes has become one of the most intriguing future trading candidates in the competition.
James Mirtle van de Athletics writes:
“Perhaps Vancouver surprises and has a huge bounce back season that convinces their captain to stay. I feel unlikely to be honest, but that is their best scenario. Otherwise they have to start considering what a blockbuster trade could look like and if it’s all about futures.”

Is there anything about the Hughes Trade Talk?
Mirtle is only the last to be noted that Hughes could evaluate his options if Vancouver does not take the next step. “With enormous questions about Elias Pettersson and Thatcher Demko, the ceiling feels too low to compete with the real contenders in the West,” Mirtle wrote. He added: “If you are Hughes, unquestionably one of the best players in the competition, it is of course to ask yourself about your future if this Canucks team will not break through.”
The Canucks went through all kinds of drama last season. Logically it is fair to wonder if Hughes felt the pressure of that soap opera season and said, “Enough of that.” He publicly stated how important it was that he remains a solid leader for the team, and as a captain no one assumes that he is ready to stop the club. President Jim Rutherford, however, did not say that Hughes might be interested in playing with his brothers.
It seemed like a strange thing to place there, even if fans and media were ready to make their own assumptions and to draw their own conclusions.
Is there anything about the chatter of the Devils?
New Jersey would be a natural fit, which Mirtle also points out. Even a high -quality deal for Hughes would probably fit under the cap while leaving space to manage the rest of the selection. The devils have been to the rumor mill and try to make room to sign Luke Hughes again. It has also been talking that Dougie Hamilton could be sent in a blockbuster movement.

Of course everything circles back to what Quinn wants. Is it his goal to turn the Canucks into a competition, and ultimately a championship team? Or is Hughes more interested in closing a long -term deal next to his two brothers in the NHL? Jack and Luke, both in the New Jersey system, would undoubtedly like to join forces with one of the best defenders in the competition. The devils would make the room that is needed to make it work.
And if Rutherford already throws the idea, how long before people start to assume that the two teams have conversations, even if they are just for the time being?
Do not immediately expect a Hughes trade
Even if we assume that the speculation is some truth, it is important to note that nothing is imminent. Firstly, this Canucks team has to see how their changes influence their performance on the ice outside season. If they go with a hot start in 2025-26, the trade katter can relax. If they don’t, rumors will arise.
An overwhelming version of Vancouver, and the flexibility of New Jersey makes this one of the most viewed trading situations in the NHL that will go into the season. A blockbuster deal can be something that both teams start to consider the mid-season and as the trading deadline approaches. Hughes has more time about his deal, so there is no hurry. That saying, if this feels inevitably, the Devils will want Hughes earlier instead of getting the Roster later, will benefit from his current contract before spending a lot of money to keep him in the long term.
