The best Power-Play unit of the Toronto Maple Leafs requires some adjustments in the 2025-26 season. Since his Rookie campaign in 2016-17, Mitch Marner has recorded more ice age than any member of the team in favor of the man. He also first ranked on the Maple Leafs with 228 Power-Play points over that period. After a trade out of season, Marner, a hanging unlimited free agent, sent to the Vegas Golden Knights, the Maple Leafs confronted with an important decision about his replacement. Similar to his even place in the top six, Toronto has many power play options to transfer before the puck drops for the regular season.

The team preferred a composition of five before the first unit for most of the 2024-25 season. After a slow start The club saw that in 19th in general with a 20.5 Power-Play percentage during the first three months, the Maple Leafs warmed up after the calendar turned to 2025. From January to the end of the regular season, Toronto had the third best Power Play (29.2 percent) in the competition. Marner’s departure leaves a challenging gap to fill. Nevertheless, the Maple Leafs have internal options and a wealth of talent with Auston Matthews, William Nylyer, John Tavares and Matthew Kni’s who are in charge. The team must be able to fill in the gap to form a group that is able to stay at the top of the NHL in the efficiency of the power play.

Morgan Rielly

Morgan Rielly is an obvious choice to get the first crack in playing again on the top combination. He has held the position for long-term documents about his 12-year term of office at the organization. The Maple Leafs have posted solid results with him in the past as the Power-Play Quarterback, and despite some struggles with consistency in the 2024-25 campaign, he remains the best offensive blueler of the team. His attacking figures can get a lift if he returned to the first unit in favor of the man.

He does not have a flowering shot from the point and records only one connection more than 90-100 miles per hour (MPH) in 2024-25. He also did not shot on the puck that often if he should have had the last campaign, but his shots come through traffic and create extra opportunities through diversions and rebounds. Last season he generated the fourth most rebounds on the Maple Leafs about all the strengths.

Madias Maccella

After taking over from the Utah Mammoth in the low season, Matias Maccelli will probably receive every occasion of the Maple Leafs to be successful in the 2025-26 campaign. He is ready to fulfill a top-six role on equally strength and can appear the first Power-Play combination if the team decides to continue to use five attackers.

Before the team moved to Utah, he registered the second most time on the benefit of the man and he had the third Power-Play points (25) for the Arizona Coyotes in 2022-23 and 2023-24. During that period in those situations he became second in the club with 15 primary assists. His playing skills would be used well on the Power Play next to triggermen with the finishing capacity of Matthews, Nylander, Tavares and Byies.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson only contributed four goals and 29 points over 77 games in the regular season in 2024-25 before he added two talies and four points in 13 Playoff tripes. His 3.4 shooting percentage in the regular season is far below its average of 6.6, and his shots per 60 minutes in all situations were the second lowest of his career. He was good for three shots in the reach of 90-100 km / h while he surpassed the top speed of Rielly and the average shot speed. It should not be a surprise that the 34-year-old Ekman-Larsson has a harder shot from the point, but he has hardly contributed a Power-Play production while saw most of his action on the second combination.

He only posted four points with the last campaign for the benefit of the man after he gathered 11 points for the Florida Panthers in 2023-24. Brandon Montour was the only defender on the Panthers to record more Power-Play points than Ekman-Larsson, and he completed the performance with considerably more ice age in Man-up situations. If he was promoted to the top playing game in 2025-26, Ekman-Larsson would probably increase its score totals.

Easton Cowan

Easton Cowan is a long recording for a place on the upper power play unit in 2025-26. He should see some top-zes deployment and Power-Play time in the training camp, but giving highly promoted prospects leading roles before the start of the regular season is not something new. He is not guaranteed at the Maple Leafs when the puck falls on the opening evening. Moreover, he would benefit greatly from adjusting the professional game at the level of the American Hockey League first as an important member of the Toronto Marlies.

However, he should be in the mix for one Spot in the NHLAnd he would probably be the first call-up if the Maple Leafs need an offensive boost. Finding a way to take him at the top of the Power-Play unit when his debut arrives is much logical. His creativity with the feeling of Puck and Hockey led to massive success in the Ontario Hockey League with the London Knights. During that time he was a central point and distributor for a stacked Power Play.

Finding the fit that works

There will probably be some experimentation during training camp practices and a variety of different looks during pre -season competitions. Head coach Craig Berube and assistant coach Marc Savard must be flexible in 2025-26 when it comes to the benefit of the man. They probably already have players in mind, but should not be afraid or not willing to change it, especially if it no longer works out of the gate. Although they have not made the cut completely, Max Domi, Nicholas Robertson, Bobby Mcmann or Nicolas Roy could be options. However, they are better suited for rolls with the second combination.

The Maple Leafs probably did not give up to improve the schedule through an exchange, and if an upgrade arrives in the top six, another strong candidate who inserts in the first Power-Play group would arise. Marner’s hasty power and passing skills on the Power Play will be missed, but other players are able to pick up the play.
