To look at objectively The results of last nightYou have to look at it from two separate games: the one where Igor Shesterkin was in the net, and the one where Talyn Boyko was in the net. It seems hard, but it is a necessity. The Rangers looked great for half of the game. They made plays, scored goals, defended and received saves from their clear cut franchise goalkeeper. The other half became sloppy, chaotic and goals with the 6th string goal -defender of the Rangers in Net. It is the preseason, so there is no worries about the big schedule of things.
The last summary I went into a more positive light, but for this we will concentrate on who should cut the Rangers bait while they can before they make poor management decisions. It is a necessary part of the discussion for the preseason to capture the field so that the NHL team can be prepared for the season.
Matthew Robertson allowed Nikita Zadorov thanks to a bad lecture to find out behind him on an escape and the winning goal. Robertson was a very ranked prospect in his concept year, but he just did not take the next steps to be an NHL defender. At the age of 24, another year in Hartford will not do much unless he is a late bloomer. His NHL future, if there is one, will certainly not be in New York.
I don’t want to spend much time on Talyn Boyko, who is probably at the bottom of the goalkeeper’s target group. Dylan Garand and Callum Tung are clearly in front of him, so it is as if he can beat Hugo Ollas for the Echl -Starting performance. He, like Robertson and Brendan Brisson (below), will not spend time in a Rangers sweater this season.
The conspiracy theorists in our thinking that Brisson was brought to the Rangers to at least one of Pat Brisson’s customers (Eichel, Jack) lure to the Rangers who come out of season this season. There is no evidence or refuting, but it is still a nice theory. However, it does not matter, because last night Brendan was essentially the new Jake Leschyshyn, who ran Cardio who did not do much else.
The same can also be said for PTO signator Andrej Sustr, who just seems to be a body until Broaden Schneider is ready. Justin Dowling, a travel man who will probably be one of the better players of Hartford, will not block a schedule in the NHL.
And now for the greatest disappointment to date: Brennan Othmann. I just don’t see the “wow” factor of him like us at Gabe Perreault, Noah Laba and even Brett Berard. It is well documented that players in the concepts of 2020 and 2021 have had rare stunts in development. The concept ranking list was also a bit more unreliable than in recent years. For whatever reason, Othmann cannot seem to open areas of the ice against the NHL talent. He is a mid -1st round pick, so it would be unfair to label him as a bust, but if you compare apples with apples, 1st round pick with 1st round pick -wing players, I take Perreault ten times out of ten times.
We will have to see what the coaching staff decides to do with Othmann, but there will be a number of difficult decisions that come to the line with so many good Middle Salt options for a hockey team to ice cream. Othmann has to look longer to see if he should shake up more rust, but this seems to be a make or break year for him, and he doesn’t go up.
There is a bit more time in the camp and the preseason for players on the CUSP to show that they belong. Othmann should probably get a longer look in view of his current situation, but he does not show that he is ready. But that is why they finally play the games.
