The Polestar 4 made its debut in April 2023 as an SUV coupe, and in terms of form it lacked a glass rear window, with a solid panel in place, located behind the full-length glass roof that extends rearward behind the rear-seat passengers.
According to Polestar, a new body style will arrive later this year, and it’s teased by a view of the rear of the vehicle that partially reveals a conventional rear window. Behind the opaque garage door panel of this Polestar 4 variant is the silhouette of a pair of roof rails, indicating a roofline closer to that of a station wagon or SUV.
“By the end of this year we will launch a new variant of the Polestar 4, based on the same great technology. With this car, Polestar will once again set new standards. Sweden is known for its station wagons and its SUVs are world-class. We combine the space of an estate and the versatility of an SUV with the dynamic performance of Polestar,” said Michael Lohscheller, CEO of Polestar, in a statement.
By Sweden, the brand likely means Volvo, which has had a long history of station wagon models until the brand announced last year that it would no longer produce new long-roof models, a direction that has since taken a potential turnaround as lower-riding EV models are possible with the manufacturer’s SPA3 platform.
The upcoming station wagon crossover variant of the Polestar 4 was only given the green light to go into production after the coupe-roof model had proven itself, Lohscheller said. Car magazine.
“We saw that the Polestar 4 works very well, and once you have a winning model, it is always good to use that as a basis and not come up with something new. When we looked at it, we saw that some people wanted more functionality, more functionality, some people have dogs, and you will see that when they are next to each other, the new derivative is really more practical,” said Lohscheller.
The current production Polestar 4 is 4,839 mm long, 2,139 mm wide and 1,544 mm high and has a wheelbase of 2,999 mm. The upcoming derivative will likely have an identical footprint, with the lower bodywork in the teaser image appearing identical to that of the coupe-roofed Polestar 4.
At its debut, the Polestar 4 was offered with a single-motor rear-wheel drive and a twin-motor all-wheel drive, from 272 hp and 343 Nm in the former, to 544 hp and 686 Nm in the latter. The Polestar 4’s charging options include up to 200 kW DC and 22 kW AC charging, and vehicle-to-load (V2L) for powering external devices. A 102 kWh battery offers up to 506 km of range according to the WLTP standard.
