Player reviews of Newcastle 0-2 Atletico Madrid

It was not a great representation or the victory we could have done, but it was a solid test against the opposition of Champions League, because Eddie How’s Newcastle needed to lose new signing sessions with 2-0 against Atletico Madrid.

Here are my players ‘reviews from today’s game in St James’ Park:

Pope (6) – made a few decent saves, but was the least impressive of the two keepers over both games.

Trippier (6) – Some decent set pieces and had stored a fine free kick. Calming presence on the ball and nicely connected to Elanga in patches, but his output in the attack of open play becomes less effective.

LACHELLES (5) – At the point to be banned to the fifth selection center with the arrival of Thiaw. Dominant in the air and showed its strength, but withdrew far too much for Secon goal. His leading role in the club should only be limited to the training field and the dressing room.

Botman (6) – Great to see him again and a valuable 45 minutes in his legs before the start of the season. Defense looked much more careful when he left. Passing and skill on the ball is a pleasure

Livramento (5.5) – Fortunately not to be punished for a bad header that has summarized an average performance. Loon will probably get the nod on the left against Villa with Hall that goes back to fitness.

Ashby (5.5) – Selection selection in midfield and did not do something wrong, apart from a few soft giveaway promotions. However, he was caught a lot from position, which can be expected in an unknown role. It seems that a loan is on the cards again

Tonali (6.5) – Influence faded in the second half, but was one of the better performers in the day. Normal that we can keep it fit this season, because there is no natural replacement

Joelinton (6.5) – had about four headers in the first half and should have had a goal in his name. Usually robust in midfield, but sloppy in possession of more than one occasion

Elanga (6.5) – Dynamic in the first half on the counter where he can use his pace. Also beat his husband two or three times with a blistering pace, but was missing the end product, with too many crosses that hit the first man. Real test comes against a low block when playing and he cannot rely on his speed

BARNES (5.5) – Rejected a good attacking opportunity in the first half, but faded the game in the second half when all attacking cohesion went through the road

Gordon (6) -All energy performance with grass covered, but in real Newcastle style he was injured with a few minutes to go with a soft tissue injury, making him serious in doubt before the start of the season.

Murphy (5) – looks good enough on the ball, but was exposed to some occasions in the defense. Another who will probably be lent

Harrison (5) – today did not get the chance to really show what he can do. Neat enough but did nothing to stand out of the peloton
