We traveled to a resort in Texas.
And to resorts in California.
And to a city in central Wisconsin.

Our 6 favorite golf resorts we visited in 2025
Alan Bastable, editor-in-chief (@alan_bastable): I can’t comment on the accommodations and other equipment at Gold Canyon Resort in Scottsdale (never been there!), but I can give a glowing review of one of the two courses: Dinosaur Mountainwhich I played for the third time in February. My neighborhood friends and I take an annual golf trip to Scottsdale, and Dino Mountain has become one of our must-plays. It looks like something out of Golden Tee, in the best possible way: many of the tee boxes are located on the cliffs of the mountain itself, and many of the holes are set against the backdrop of the volcanic area known as the Superstition Mountains. It’s stunning, fun and playable – and yes, we’re going back in February.
Josh Berhow, Editor-in-Chief (@Josh_Berhow): Horseshoe Bay Resortabout an hour west of Austin, Texas. I snuck out of Minnesota for a warm weather getaway during our spring break, and Horseshoe Bay turned out to be a great option. Relaxed but good golf. Swimming pools galore for children. Barbecuing for days. Even spectacular mini golf. And we never had to leave the building.
Jessica Marksbury, editor-in-chief (@Jess_Marksbury): The Southern California desert is one of my favorite escapes, especially during the shoulder season of October when the weather is absolutely perfect and the crowds are low. This year the family visited the Omni Rancho Las Palmas for a reunion with one of my high school friends and her family. The resort is expansive and the accommodations were beautiful. We had a beautiful balcony overlooking the golf course. Unfortunately I didn’t play, but I love desert golf in California so I’m sure the course is great. What I can give a great review about, however, is the family-friendly pool, which was absolutely fantastic. Two slides, a lazy river and a sandy beach kept the kids busy for two days in a row. There are plenty of options for alfresco dining at the resort’s restaurants, and there’s also a fun menu of crafts and activities for the kids. We’ve been to many resorts in SoCal over the years, but this one quickly became a favorite.
Nick Piastowski, editor-in-chief (@nickpia): Unfortunately I didn’t visit a resort this year, but I think I can contribute here. For the past four years, a group of friends and I have driven to the Green Lake, Wisconsin area and turned it into our own golf resort. We rent an Airbnb. We stock at the Hy-Vee in Ripon. We play golf at the two gems on the Lawsonia property (Links and Woodlands) in Green Lake – and we also play at Tuscumbia in Green Lake and Mascoutin in Berlin. The trip is cheap. We do things on our own schedule. The golf is great. Yes, we are already planning our visit in 2026!
Josh Sens, senior writer (@JoshSens): I finally went there again Gambling sand this year, more than ten years after its opening. On my first trip, the place was so new that there was only the track and a pro shop. Nothing in terms of amenities. In the time since, they’ve added a great par-3 course and, more recently, a sibling 18, Scarecrow, along with a great restaurant, a nice bar and meeting area, and nice accommodations that support a really fun putting course. In other words, the property has evolved from a curiosity to a destination in its own right, in a setting overlooking a river valley unlike anything I’ve ever seen in American golf.
Sean Zak, senior writer (@Sean_Zak): I had the pleasure of visiting Omni La Costa recently and was quite enamored with the place. The only thing I wish I had was a tennis partner, as the non-golf offering is quite good. Lighted tennis courts, pickleball courts of all kinds, a huge full gym – the campus is huge, but there’s a lot of it… not to mention the course that hosts the NCAA D1 golf championships.
